So our regular  Tokai plantation training  ride has been closed indefinitely.Being fortunate enough to stay in Tokai our ride 3-4 times a week would be from home up through Tokai trails to  the Silvermine gate.

I have just been up to check and they say it might remain off limits to bikers ...for up to 2 months.

So what are the alternatives...

1.Are the allowing mtnbikers onto the Silvermine section of the trail in that case we could bike up Oue Kaapse weg and in through the main gate.

2 The deer-path ? is the parking still dodgy at Rhodes memorial late afternoon..or I believe some guys are parking at Kirstenbosch gardens.

i wonder if they would let us through the Swaanswyk gate and across up to the Silvermine gate?

There has not been any issues at Rhodes Memorial for a long time. The lower parking is normally chock a block with riders and runners vehicles. If you feel uneasy, park on the UCT upper campus, across from a security booth with guard and all. (My little secret, but usually I ride from home.) There are normally many more riders now than a year or 2 ago. Riding in groups is still recommended, but many ride alone.

Nope. No access to silvermine or tokai at all. Timelines to be confirmed with parks In due time.

We (the committee) WILL let you know as soon as access and build days have been reinstated.

For the moment though there is just no timeline. Too early to commit to one just yet and cape pine (afaik) don't yet know what they're going to be doing regarding the trees that are still there.

Please be patient during this period - parks had their power and telephone lines taken put by the fire so they're also operating at minimal capacity at the moment.

Things will come, we just can't say how fast Just yet.

Come to think of it, I think SANParks can score HUGE brownie points with the cycling community by opening parts of Cecilia Forest officially.......just saying.......perhaps someone can whisper in the right ears?

Oh. Yes. Rhodes mem and the front of the mountain are fine for access (ttable mountain bikers routes) and your activity card is valid there.

On the front of the mountain are some WICKED climbs so if it's climbing that you're looking for (aalong with a bit of a change in scenery) then that is definitely an option worth considering

Possible, but then we also have to consider that the Walker contingent will have increased there as well as one of the unaffected and still open areas so it's probably unlikely.

Will still broach it though.

I know it is a loooong shot, but I'm in a dreamy kind of mood today.....   :)
