Trail bikes that are decently priced but aren't Giant Trances

Silverback Slider is probably the best value trail bike with Stans Arch wheels and Pike. Trance is great and even pimped out it works out much cheaper than Pyga or SC where a lot of cash goes into the decal.

If i ask "which bikes are like giant trances but arent giant trances?"

and you say "get a giant trance"

not only have you not answered the question but you've also made assumptions as to if im even on the market for a new bike

you may as well have told me that its raining in Argentina today.

this thread isin't to tell everyone about the giant trance, i thought i cleared up that with the title of the thread, its to talk about its competitors.

whenever anyone says "i have about 25k to spend on a trail bike" they always end up with a trance X2, its a good bike, but what else is on the table sub 30ish-k

No reason to look any further...

Silverback Slider - best 650B trail bike if you're on a budget. Being a Silverback, it still has excellent spec for the price.

+1 on the parts that Silverback put on their bikes. They are brilliant when it comes to cost and reliable bikes!

I tried.

Also I reckon there are ways to build sub30k bikes that'll make you drool by going second hand on a decent frameset.

Like Sakkiebomskoks Nomad C for R7500.

Let's say you get it and the CK headset for the R7500 he's asking:

Then Flow/Novatec wheelset for R5000 (R12500)

Pike at R9 500 as per ads on the Hub (R22000)

Cockpit (bar, stem, grips and seat) R1000 (R23000)

SLX 2x10 groupset from CWC at around R6000 (R29 000)

Dropper ate R2000 (R31 000).

So that's R31 000 for a Nomad C with top wheels, great groupo, awesome suspension.

Edit: realised BBis part of Groupo

mada3400 your question was "which bikes are like giant trances but arent giant trances?"

The simple answer was "there aren't any".

Nobody told you to buy a Trance.

You want a Trance but it must not be a Trance.

If you are prepared (heaven forbid) to go for the previous years model you can get it for 30% less - sweet hey. You would have to wait till about October to get a deal on a 2014 model. Good vintage the 2014.

You specified 'reasonably priced' as well.

You got your answer, even if it wasn't the one you were looking for - the thing does not exist unless you compromise somewhere.

I could give you a pretty long list of decent trail bikes, but they're all a moer of a lot more cashish than the Giant, so that still wouldn't answer your question exactly.

Camber Evo is lovely, I have the expert, but I enjoy my Stumpy fsr a lot more actually.

I read an article recently aimed at riders looking to get their first bike.

In an attempt to clarify things and prepare new comers for the budget they require.

It was said that no brand is necessarily better than the next. That bikes are priced according to specs despite brand and that in the end you get what you pay for. While there is some degree of truth to this again...the first thing that popped into my head was...rubbish. Why? Giant ******* trance that's why.

On a side note its also worth mentioning that where as some of us see value for money (those with common sense) others see a cheap bike. As if something that is competitively priced is inherently inferior. There are those out there that believe that their bike is better because it costs more.

A friend of mine works in retail. I'm not sure what his title is but he is responsible for marketing a certain (overly priced) brand of clothing. His job includes strategically placing certain items of their brand in appropriate stores across the peninsular based on demographic or target market for that area. Imagine 2 identical t-shirts. One boasts the brands label printed largely on the front. The other t-shirt is not printed at all. But other that this they are both identical. The ones with the print go to stores aimed at those who aspire to wear the brand but can hardly afford it. The ones with the print costs half as much as the ones without. The ones without the print go to smaller boutique stores. In limited colours and stock. Very limited. This conveys a false sense of exclusivity. Its not printed because those who can easily afford the brand and wear it often don't feel the need to advertise it. They buy it for themselves. Not for others to see. These are the people that WANT to pay more. Because well if its expensive enough it makes them feel better about themselves. in the end. Its still the same ******* t-shirt

I have a expert evo and expert stumpy, both carbon 29ers, both pike up front. Very similar. Stumpy feels nicer, almost better designed, and of course the Stumpy has the brain system. Which is a LOT less clunky and hard than on the Epic, but it still makes a huuuuge difference when climbing. Stumpy climbs so well, where the Evo feel sluggish and heavy. Downhill very similar, but again, I prefer the 130mm Pike upfront and the geometery of the Stumpy. On paper they seem similar, but they actually very different bikes. The Stumpjumper is actually the flagship bike for Spez, not the Epic like us South Africans believe. Its a bloody good bike. Selling my Evo as its just gathering dust.

but what other bikes are there out ther.... forget it i give up.

all i was trying to do was talk about alternative options even if they were more expensive or worse.

Stumpjumper Specialized, Specialized Camber, Specialized Enduro. All more expensive, and all better suited to my riding than a Trance. Prettier aswell
