So are most of you saying In Dirtbin the night before or in PMB?

Anyone keen to go for a +- 60km gentle ride the Saturday morning? (I dont know the 'safe' routes so need to join a few people)

Oi! Durban ain't no dirtbin!

I'll probably do an easy ride to umhlanga on the Saturday, there will be plenty people on the roads going that way.

Be great if a few Hubbers got together!!? Tombeej? Other durbanites?

I'd be very keen for a chilled Saturday ride with Hubbers  .

But my suggestion would be to start from Oscars in Hillcrest, ride backwards along the route towards PMB, then turn around and come back through Inchanga-Drummon-Bothas Hill. It's a very pretty ride, but also a great way for first timers to get a proper look at this section before the race. It will help a lot for mental preparation.

Back at Oscars we can then have a nice brekkie (the most popular eatery for cyclists in Hillcrest, it's often packed with roadies and mountain bikers every Saturday and Sunday morning for breakfast).

there will be plenty activity from Suncoast. 5-6am starts. A gentle cruise along the M4 pass Umhlanga to Westbrook beach will give you about a 65km ride. rice rolling roads with no serious climbs to hurt the legs.

I have managed to move up to EL this year. Not sure if my legs are EL ready though. (At least it is down hill all the way  )

Anyhow, I love this race and will enjoy every second.

AL again for me. It's going to be a tough one for me this year.

Plagued with injuries since May this year. I will just try to hang on.

My goal of 2hr50 is out the window and will be happy with anything under 3.

Agreed.  Save your legs for Sunday and do the M4 to Westbrook.  East Coast Cycling Club will be riding from Suncoast at 5.30am.  All welcome to join us.

We'll do about 45 km in total (equivalent of your intended 60 km flat ride), but it covers an important section that you'll be glad you had a chance to look at before race day (it's the 50 - 75 km section of the race when you really start to feel it).

Yes it's hilly, but more like rolling hills. Easy stuff.

Like I say, I don't like riding at all before a race, so I'm only offering to act as tour guide to have a chance to meet you guys for the first time, help with a few pointers on my home course, and to enjoy a really social chilled morning on the bike with coffee afterwards.

I would only take it extremely slowly... "smell the roses" pace. We can stop along the route and view sites of the valley, etc., just spin the pedals in the easiest gear, soak up some suns rays and enjoy the morning.
