Shap. They'll have to be individuals then but will struggle to fill my team of 8.

This was changed - official notice due soon (website updated) - mixed teams will be allowed but will (for the 2016 event) compete in the open (previously mens) category.  From 2017 we'll look to introduce a formal mixed category.  Will be fantastic to welcome more of the ladies to the event in 2016.

Hopefully by saying a few words I'll be adding some value to the true history of the Tour de Boland.

1. The Boland area, in the 1900's, used to have their own Boland Cycling Union (BCU).

Somehow BCU stopped existing and was taken up by Western Province Cycling Union.

2. In 2002, under leadership of Japie Green from Paarl, the previous South African Cycling Association (SACA - the previous "Black" Cycling Body) President, a new BCU was established. Thus, BCU once again became a cycling union in its own right affiliated to the current Cycling SA.

3. The Tour de Boland was then initiated as a BCU event, and never belonged to any Individual/Events Company/Sponsor.

4. With the current provincial borders, somehow BCU became part of the Western Cape. The traditional BCU now operates as Winelands Cycling.

5. According to my knowledge, seeing that I was one of the founding members who steered the establishment of BCU under leadership of the late Japie Green, this event never belonged to anyone, but to the Cycling Community in the Boland area.

6. Sadly, the "Boland People" lost what was a true Boland initiative.

7. Or, I hope it's not the case, seeing that development of the youth by investing the proceeds from events like the Boland Tour was always and still is one of the few ways of doing talent development.

8. Finally, I truly hope our youth benefit from this.

If your guys from the Western Cape could only ride like you can complain ..............!

When will the Tour of Good Hope become an official UCI race? Now that would be interesting indeed ...

RUDY PROJECT ANNOUNCES BIGGEST PRODUCT SPONSORSHIP EVER FOR A ROAD CYCLING TOUR IN SOUTH AFRICA

  http://i3.cmail2.com/ei/j/3E/D2D/B15/csimport/NewPicture6.080520.png

Leading global sports brand Rudy Project has made an incredible sponsorship commitment to South Africa’s flagship road cycling stage race, the Bestmed Tour of Good Hope.

The Italian eyewear manufacturer has made a phenomenal pledge of R3.5 million in product sponsorship to the event, which represents the ultimate event endorsement and the largest of its kind in road racing on the African continent.

The Rudy Project sponsorship will directly benefit all riders who complete the race, which takes place from 29 February to 4 March 2016, with every finisher being rewarded with their own set of Rudy Project Tralyx eyewear - and the privilege of becoming part of cycling event history.

To join the ranks of the most exciting race of the year, make sure to enter before November 30th 2015. The field is limited to 1000 riders and 550 riders have already signed up.

Event info is on www.tourofgoodhope.co.za.

With our pro teams and events catapulting onto the world stage, South African cycling is gathering momentum and a global reputation for excellence.

This unprecedented investment into South African cycling by Rudy Project is a testament to the fact that the Western Cape is fast becoming a favourite destination for cyclists from all over the world and underlines the prestige of the Bestmed Tour of Good Hope.

The Bestmed Tour of Good Hope has captured the imagination of cyclists from across the globe, and for good reason. The event has set a new benchmark in road stage racing, offering an array of different riding bunches from elite all the way to the Grumpy Old Men bunch in one of the most beautiful settings in the world.

The event also provides for one of the most competitive amateur team competitions in the sport, encompassing a team time trial (limited to participants in the amateur team competition) and four road stages.

Having celebrated its’ 30th birthday earlier this month, Rudy Project boasts with three decades of experience in creating top-of-the-range sports products worn by elite athletes in events across the globe.

Their latest groundbreaking invention, the Tralyx sports glasses, debut as the eyewear choice of victorious athletes at the Tour de France and in Iron Man competitions earlier this year.

These glasses are revolutionising the face of competitive eyewear.

About Rudy Project Tralyx:

Bringing together a wealth of experience in optical and sports technology, the Tralyx represents a new standard in optical design.

Literally “sculpted by the wind”, the cutting edge design - created using a light and flexible grilamid frame - ensures the ultimate in aerodynamic efficiency.

The new and unique PowerFlow™ ventilation system reduces fog and provides visual clarity in all conditions. Comfort for the wearer is assured thanks to breakthrough Adaptive Tips™ which benefit from an inner bendable steel core, allowing the front portion of the tip to very easily adjust and create a custom fit.

Moreover, the addition of a unique safety fold-in-hinge eliminates any sharp edges builds on the safety prioritization, which is so integral to Rudy Project products across their ranges.

The Tralyx also utilises tried and tested Rudy Project features such as Ergonose bridges and ImpactX™ shatter-proof lenses resulting in the ultimate mix of new and old innovations for a product guaranteed to stand the test of time.

Any news on this? Surely you must know what or who enters seeded group A and B?

Hi Jaco,  My mistake - Wynand sent me below response on Thursday already!  Feel free to mail him on wynand@asgworld.co.za if you need more info.

Hi Jaco

If you have a normal CSA annual license then you have to enter in open/seeded – or you can get a few buddies together and enter as an amateur team of eight in this category.

The licensed elite, 30+, 40+ and 50+ Veterans categories are for riders with full CSA racing licenses.

Regards

Wynand
