Rotiringer Posted March 27, 2015 Posted March 27, 2015 Looking for advice. Am doing a race in the Drakensberg end of April. Racing between 7 turn points dotted between Oliviershoek and Underberg over 3 days. The route I've plotted looks like roughly 200km on tar road, 140km on dirt road, 35km on Drakensberg footpaths (combo riding and pushing), 10km carrying bike. I have a choice between a dual suspensions MTB or a Cycloross. CX is 9.5kg and MTB 12kg. CX feels so much better on the road but 100km of corrigated dirt road is not lekker. Does one go for slick tyres of knobblies either which way?
Ryanpmb Posted March 27, 2015 Posted March 27, 2015 Why not say what race it is?... Maybe someone has done it and has previous experience. If the dirt sections are only dirt roads then I'd go CX.
arendoog Posted March 27, 2015 Posted March 27, 2015 I would like knobbies and wide handlebars AKA a mountainbike
porqui Posted March 27, 2015 Posted March 27, 2015 Dual sus with knobblies You will last about 15min on corrugations with no sus.
Stretch Posted March 27, 2015 Posted March 27, 2015 Dare I say it....kenda small block 8...and for your bike debate..the notties himeville has been done on a rigid by many...the hubs own sheriff being one of them....but I preferred to do it on dual sus
