Bic Mac for race nutrition

I'm going to go with Prof Tim Noakes on this and disagree with you. Not that I don't occasionally indulge in junk food but you have to draw the line somewhere.

You mean Prof Tim Noakes the sports scientist who has absolutely no nutrition qualifications whatsoever?

Lets leave the nutrinional value alone for a moment, and whether its healthy or not. But, with all the gross videos and photos on the internet and facebook, whether they are true or not, how can anyone possibly eat Mcdonalds? From employees blood in the food, to people spitting in your food etc etc.

You can say that for any place you eat at, where you havent prepared the food yourself...Some friends dont even have the best hygiene but people wont doubt it when eating by these friends.

Yeah McD's are the bomb for healthy living, its not really processed and none of the additives are difficult to pronounce. The MSDS for some of the additives read like a friggen nuclear plant warning board...

I'm no hippie, but eating that or a Wimpy burger for that matter has no benefit other than filling a hole in your gut...

There is absolutley nothing wrong with Macky D's apart from being a monolithic corporate entity which crunchies like to attack for being seen as an agent of globalism and consumerism (not commenting either way). It's fast food and if eaten to the exclusion of everything else will be unhealthy, but that would be true of organic sirloin steak.

Agreed, but Mcdonalds has to be the worst, followed by kfc. I was just asking a question, I am full of *** where I eat, and who preps my food.

I just love these nutrition debates that people have and I comment here knowing I am opening myself up for criticism

Bottom line is ................ Yes what you put in is what you will get out but his holds true for the hour immediately post exercise (whether it be a race or LSD on a weekend)!!

I am always amused at how many people talk about being super healthy and aware of what they eat and then I watch as they either eat nothing post a race (and that can literally be from a 20km to an ultra marathon) or they order a coffee or my best yet a beer - because they've earned it!!

What you consume post exercise is important (dare I say even more important than what you consume the rest of the time). This is what your body will use to replenish depleted stores.

As for the comments on 20kms not needing much nutrition for those people starting out YES this is as far as they can possibly go so yes they need nutrition. And while we are on the topic kids that ride also need adequate nutrition after they race whether it be a 5km race or a 20km race - their stores will also be depleted dependent on variables and so they need post race nutrition too - not a slush puppy!

When you actually have a close look at the nutritional value of what you consume on a daily basis you will be amazed at how much of what you perceive to be good for you is actually not.

So as long as we are not eating Big Macs in the hour after a training session or race - it's all ok I'm my house . Everything in moderation!

Hey Allison, don't make your name tottie here by insulting the greatest and healthiest drink man has ever invented.

(Actually read a study somewhere that said beer is a good post workout drink).
