Hey

I'm stuck with a really tough (but nice) decision

For Road racing wheels, which one would you choose and why ?

Can one convert Bora Ultra Two wheels that are 11 speed campag into 10 speed Sram ?

Bora Ultras are 50mm and Mavics are 40mm, i am 65kg so would wind be a factor in the Cape ?

Thanks

Im 64kg atm and i have enve 3.4(35mm&45mm)

And im in CT

U know CT.. Very stong wind most of time..

Sometimes so scarrd to use it.. Hahahaha

50mm looks cool but u dont really need high rims maybe If u are a sprinter or leading a group, u may need them.

I'd rather go for 35mm bora but 2015model.

And u should check the price. SA price is pretty higher than EU price...

Both great wheelsets, 50mm shouldn't be to much of an issue one to get used to them an learn how to ride deep sections in the wind. (i'm 58kg at race weight and race 50mm)

Don't have first hand experience with the Mavic's but the Bora's are fantastic. There CULT bearings roll forever and the rims are very strong (seen some big potholes hit and tyres blown with no damage to the wheels)

Only other factor is if for some reason you break a spoke on the Mavic's a repair might be rather tricky vs the Bora's.

Mavics . They the stiffest, fastest wheel I have ridden on. The boras have very smooth hubs but they a bit finicky with setting them. Once set they run true forever. The mavics just have a better feel like every ounce of power is going to the road since they so stiff. My friends lightweights come close to the mavics but I put them ahead because they a fraction of the cost

Fortunately i have some great people looking after me so i don't have to pay the full price for the wheels. The Mavics would actually cost a lot more than the Bora's.

People say that if you free wheel with Bora's you over take people.

I've gone through 3 sets of Mavic training wheels in two years because of minor problems that can't be fixed (I do ride a lot more than most people though)

I'm still not sure if i can use the Bora's on my current 10 speed Sram Red bike. The bora has a 11 speed campy free body. The Mavics do look very stiff and are probably the better climbing wheels. Such a hard decision.

The bora. They built bullet proof and far lower maintenance required.
You can swop the campagnolo free body for a fulcram shimano/ sram freebody, but please remove the decals from the wheels then  . You will get lashing  from italian die hards. Its a sin to mix anything with campagnolo :cursing:  :nuke:

This is true   I have Mavic training wheels and work in a LBS so see my fair share of wheels.

Mavic do tend to have little issues. (freewheel play, nipple corrosion, etc) but it looked after can last. I have had my Ksyrium's for going on 5 years +-50000km and have never changed a bearing, freehub or spoke. That doesn't mean I haven't serviced them though.

You could get away without changing the freehub body by using an Campag 10spd cassette with a spacer behind and adjusting your derailleur limits. This will probably work out costing the same as a Shimano freehub body and cassette as Campag cassettes are big $$$. To convert the freehub body should be around R1300.00

I roll with the Ultimates.

Stiff.

Tough.

Light.

Stealth.

Great rim depth. I've got no worries in the Cape gusts.

They'll rock the Swift ????

To be fair two of the times my mavic ksyriums have broken was from crashing. They are solid wheels which is why i kept buying them.

I service my wheels and bike every two weeks or so. Ive worked in a bike shop so can do it myself, but the rear wheel on my current wheel set is barking and no body can help me fix it. I've even replaced the free body.

I ride about 500km+ a week and race almost every weekend so i think its time for a another wheel set to race on, and get a durable wheel set to train on.

Are you using a campy groupo ?

The swift would look great with some plain carbon wheels.
