Toughest affordable races

Surely the Epic is the big daddy, but like the title states it does not apply. Was thinking of races like:

36One, Desert dash, Sabie Ultra, Rooiberg Ultra. Affordable is obviously a very vague concept, but within reason.

What do you guys think, after which race, multi stage and single stage, are you most tempted my theHub's classifieds?

Bo Piketberg 70km (I think,..started tearing up from 45km already, so not sure) one day, proper unrelenting singletrack that will eat you up and PeeePeee you out.....but What a ride! What a vibe! Sooo worth it! A must do on the local Western Cape one day calendar ;)

Good question. As you say, open to interpretation - and depending on income bracket. Also have to mix in the enjoyment factor to get a real feel of 'value for money'.

Tankwa Trek is still my favorite of 3 day stage races. Its affordable and 3 days of Epic riding. Hard core, but can still enjoy the beer. The Ashburton series is also hard core, good value for money for us amateurs.

Highly recommended. Very well organized, beautiful remote areas, scenic route.

Next year will be my number 5...

How is to hell and back? But that is at the end of the year. I struggle to train when I do not have a tough event as motivation, and with the winter comming I am in need of extra motivation, otherwise I just do like 30km "nice" trails on the weakend and not really proper training, hence the thread.

I highly recommend the Trans Draak.

Two options, the 205km & the 'mini' at 140km. Fantastically well organised, awesome water tables/check points.

Currently quite a small event but I see it growing in the future.

Tough, but fair.

Unfortunately you've just missed it, so it'd have to be the 2016 event.
