I considered ordering some of those Adidas Terrex Trail Cross to replace a tired pair of Impact VXIs...

...but alas, I had just taken delivery of some replacement Impacts when I came across the Terrexes, so I had to restrain myself.

I must say though (and I have said it before), the Impact VXI's have to be my favourite FiveTens (and I am now sitting with 7 pairs... I feel like a Sandton soccer-mom stereotype)

Uppers still in great condition after plenty of abuse.

Soles were getting a little tired though. I shimmy my feet quite a lot on the pedals, hence the gauges. But there is still plenty life in them.

I rode the new ones for the first time last Friday. That new FiveTen tackiness is something one has to experience for themselves!

i'm getting those Terrex trails any day now. Also been eyeballing the new VXis. what's the major improvements other than the new Mi6 rubber?

To be honest the Mi6 is just icing on the cake.

The biggest improvements are:

  • Weight. A LOT lighter than my Sam Hills.
  • Stiffness. They have a very supportive sole and frame without being bulky
  • Element Resistance. They don't let water in as easy, and when they do get muddy, just hose them down. During last year's Morzine-mudfest, I would hose them down each day after riding. y the next morning they were dry enough to wear again, even with the miserable weather. I think less padding is the main reason for their quick drying super-powers, but comfort-wise, they are still amazing.
  • They don't look like "gardening shoes" (as Mr Christmas Tree would say)

I have Sam Hills, 2x Red Barons, Maltese Falcons, Freerider VXi Elements, and 2x Impact VXi, and these are definitely my favourites.

LOL,

I am also using the VXi elements and they are extremely comfy and waterproof.

The VXi's are fantastic aren't they.

I was in the 'Five-Ten are too expensive' naysayer group until I convinced the wife to buy a pair as my Christmas present.

Now I am barely one step short of going full blown born again, knocking on strangers doors, giving them pamphlets and trying to change the way they live through adopting the way of the Five-Ten.

I hope you have a dropper post!

FiveTens and dropper posts. Items that really are worth all that money!

Of course.

It cost more than the rest of my bike and riding gear combined but I just had to have it.

Those Adidas shoes have quite a few breather holes punched into the top of the toe box, no one worried about the potential for getting wet feet via those holes?

there's a huge hole where your foot goes into the shoe.

How long did it take for that intelligent observation to occur to you?

a while. first had to take my foot out from under the desk, then studied the layout abit. real investigation. glad you are grateful though

Now i'm waiting to hear how its going to take you to explain why the holes are a concern given water can get in elsewhere a lot easier.

or the slight possibility this is a fair weather shoe..

or that you have a choice to not wear it when its moist outside...

Twenty minutes according to the times on the posts.

I would guess his point is that if it's really wet/muddy your feet are going to get wet anyway.

Unless you wear wellies and accept the weight penalty that comes with that.

Good for you buddy, you getting somewhere, slowly but you keep at it.

Most shoes you can submerge the toe box in water for short periods without getting water leaking in/wet feet, for instance foot down on the edge of puddles, carefully stepping over streams etc. Also riding along overgrown trails early in the morning with dew your toebox being at the front of the pedal gets properly wet from brushing the undergrowth.

I have had shoes with breather holes in the toebox and that was my experience, came to the conclusion I would prefer to not have them due to their propensity to allow water in.

my word, that was incredibly astute of you there skylar...

but now that you've enlightened me to this horrible hazard, i shall report back once i got my pair. Hope they've incorporated 5.10s replacement of the rather absorbent foam liners with something more hydrophobic for quicker drying like Patches new kicks.
