Quick release on carbon frame?

A mate of mine was told today by an oke at a bike shop that he shouldn't use a quick release on his carbon mtb frame. It's a silverback storm. Does anyone have any experience with this?

Sort of makes sense to protect the ignorant.  The more technically astute rider should now how to tension the quick release seat clamp properly.  But you get some kragapies that don't understand the concept of too tight.

 

EDIT:  On the other hand, if you use an Aluminium seat post I don't see any problem with a quick release clamp.

 

2ND EDIT:  Logic tells me it's not possible to crack a carbon frame using a quick release seat clamp with any seatpost inserted.  I stand corrected.

No 1 cause of warranties...........seat tube cracks starting at the clamp. Problem is designs don't cater for overtightening. Some roadie frames try to use wedge type system.

 

QR seat camp is not good idea. Rather send x20 more and get a dropper post

Thanks for the info. I've told him to get a qr so he can drop his seat. But I'll add the caveat about not making it too tight.

 

I've seen plenty of other carbon bikes with a qr on the seat post. So it should be fine.
