First timer, new bike, crap selection in SA?

I'm soon going to be joining a few of my mates on their trails. They do technical / XC etc. I have been doing loads of research on the net. The specs on a bike i'm looking for is any good 27.5" with RockShox Air forks (I have read nothing but negative results on Suntour). The problem is... every damn cycle store either only has 29er or their 27.5's only have Suntour forks which CAN'T be upgraded to RockShox because the headers are straight steer non-tapered. Our selection on MTB is SA is dismal compared to overseas. I would really like to get a Scott Aspect 710 but I can't find one anywhere. I would have loved a Momsen AL651 or Aspect 750 with RockShox Air forks, but apparently it's all incompatible. Hopefully someone here can shed some light?

EDIT: Budget R15k

mmmm don't know if I can agree with your statement, SA is probably THE xc / xcm capital of the world, and the bikeshops stock what sells the most...I am afraid if you can't find what you are looking for XC / XCM wise in SA you won't find it anywhere.

With that being said, silverback and momsen make great entry levels bikes that are well spec'd. Go to bikeshops that stock these brands.

PS remember the RS air forks are considered an upgrade and with it comes tapered headset tubes...no way around it. You won't make a tapered fork fit into straight tube. Maybe even look secondhand

That there is your problem.......just go to 3 of the better local bike shops and I think you'll be amazed with the variety of real bikes on the floor.

Come ride one of our demo Pygas at The Trailhead - 27.5 are available as 120 or 140 travel models. Their build kits only have RS Revelation or Pike depending on which model you looking at.

We also have the carbon Cube 140 Stereo 27.5 which is very very nice. Has a Fox 32 CTD Kashima fork...

@porqui The mine dumps have sick technical trails :) Heard of Chimes?

@rouxtjie I have visited stores, and even contacted a few others. No luck. It's all 27.5's with Suntours non-tapered. I will be financing 2 bikes so 2nd-hand is not an option for me. Anyone had luck with importing?

Ah I see, look it seems you have very specific spec's in mind...mix and match according to your taste. I have brought in a frame from overseas and built myself, so importing is not as hard as you may think

Alternatively, check robodog above, lekker bike shop, flippen stunning bikes, I can't see you leaving there without your bikes if you serious about it. Also since your are the mix and match type(I am the same) they are the perfect shop that do paint-by-numbers in bike terms.
