Yeah, UPS are awesome, and they dont mess around. They can even guarantee a delivery date, somthing DHL cannot do.

I too asked crc to send via UPS but they outright refused. What a pity.

I have the email addy of a few of their ops managers etc, which I will be using in a bit.

Finally after a day and a half, CRC replied only to say that the items were sent  but not offering any further assistance as in the past

You must be on their black list

I am sitting with the same at the moment. Ordered parts from Starbike.com

Previous shipment took 4 days from Germany to my office in Cape town. :)  ... thought I found my new international parts suppliers :)

but ...

Current Starbike order is stuck at customs. Phoned DHL, turns out Starbike uses DHL (Standard), not DHL express. So not dealing with DHL, but SAPO now, as SAPO handles all DHL standard packages. My items is stuck at Capemail hub, ... trying to phone the numbers supplied by DHL Express .... just a voice asking to hold the line. Was able to get a mail through and responded too on customer.services@postoffice.co.za.

Updated them with the invoice, but now still waiting again. No idea of whether the info I sent them will end up where it is needed.

I have faith though :)

According to the tracking number it has arrived sat. everyday since then I get an update that says clearance event. I am not blaming CRC for the postal service I thought I could avoid the poor service by making use of DHL but it just seems worst

Eddy, have you called DHL to enquire about this?

9/10 times DHL is brilliant and the package arrives properly and in good time.

I had this same thing happen to me once - for some unknown reason DHL didn't email the invoice to me or it got lost in cyberspace, and so the "clearance event" was them waiting for me to pay the clearance fees - their system just updates every day saying "clearance event".... After a few days I just called DHL with the tracking number and they resent me the inovice immediately, paid, and recieved package the next day.

As I said this happened once out of 10+ times I have used DHL, and now I know for next time.... I will never go SAPO if I can avoid it and use DHL.

Funny, each time I and others have uused them, you have to threaten violence to get that invoice... Then to confirm that they've actually received POP, then then then...

Have had good experiences with DHL Express.

Even the one time  they made a bolls up in the UK  and sent my handlebar and seat post to Kim Jong-un.

They still had it here 4 days later.

DHL Express is very good 99% of the time

Everything from CRC in Belfast, or where ever in the UK, goes good until it reaches the dark continent. That is were things goes dark.

Especially at customs clearance.

It is not DHL as a company's fault. It's the person at RSA or NAM customs  with their dark continent work ethic.

I have come to realize that if you are a private person and do not have a VAT import number, then your stuff spends a lot of time at "customs update" probably because it takes a bit more paperwork  and effort (aka lazy)  to bill you as a private person for import VAT.

My packages just arrive on time, no payment  needed, and about month later I get the payment in a ASCUDA  report with the rest of the companies Import VAT.

DHL tends to use whatever contact details they have for you on their database, even if you change your phone number / email / address when you order, and even though CRC puts the correct details on the parcel.

They once even sent the VAT bill through to my employer (which caused an unhappy boss) because I gave my work address to CRC, and they (DHL) sucked my boss's email address out of their database instead of using the one that CRC gave them.

So if you change your email address, or give CRC your work address, they could be sending emails to and old address or your employer.

Whether they deliver to the address in their database or the one on the parcel is up to chance.

I'm not a big fan of DHL. There is an easy way to do package delivery, and there is a difficult way, and they seem to have willingly embraced the latter. Any company that still insists on using a fax machine as the primary means of communication won't get my business (here's looking at you too Vodacom!)

It's 2015 for crying out loud!
