If it's a HT then check that seat post.... :)

Full sus then check the DU bushes on the eyes of the shock as well as all the other stuff already mentioned.

I had a creak thay annoyed me so much and sure it was the bb so took thay out cleaned it, greased it and put it back.

Still the creak remained. I was sure it was the headset so took it out, cleaned it, greased it and put it back.

Still the creak remained. I was sure it was chain ring bolts so too them out, cleaned then, greased them and put them back.

Still the creak

remained...aaaarrrggg....turned the bike upside down to check every bolt was tight. Eventually came across a bolt that was slightly loose on the swing arm that attached to a pivot....tightened it and BAM....no more creak.

At least some parts got a service in the interim.

Check every single bolt everywhere is tight.

On a dual sus it is usually pivot bearings. But don't just tighten them. Sometimes one has seized and will need to be replaced.

As mentioned above, there are a number of other spots which can also cause creaking. Even stem bolts.

Try and isolate the area its coming from:

Sit on the saddle but don't touch pedals. Bounce and move around. If hardtail/dual and noisy then it's your seatpost/clamp/rails/saddle or maybe rear skewer. If DS then maybe pivots. Eliminate saddle by grabbing and twisting it.

Eliminate stem/headset by standing next to bike and push down only on front.

If creaks only while pedalling then look to BB, chainring bolts, pivots, skewer, pedals or pedal threads.

Good luck!

I had a similar issue. When pedaling the creak was audible, but trying to find it off the bike impossible. After greasing/oiling every component and testing, it turned out to be my pedals. Only creaked when I applied force .... Replaced them and the creak disappeared ... Still wanted to service them and re-use but haven't got around to it.

I was convinced my bb was shot a few months back. It got so loud while pedaling under a load that pedestrians would turn around from about 30 meters ahead to see what was coming. It turns out that the noise was coming from the spokes on the rear wheel where they touch each other. A drop of lube on each point where the spokes cross and I had complete silence.

  I found the problem.. Its the front derailleur's rivets that's loose..

Thanks to all for all the good advice. At least the whole bike got a nice service.

Just got to replace the derailleur.
