Good day to all

I'm looking at buying a bike for the first time and I'd like to hear if anyone has any experience with bike shops in Pretoria east? Any good or bad experiences with a particular shop or reasons to avoid or prefer a certain shop? Some advice would be appreciated.

Thanks guys, that's exactly where I'm stuck at the moment though, Hotspot or Bruce's? I should probably just visit both and see which I like better then. But if anyone here has any other opinions, please share.

I'd rate Lynnwood Cyclery and Hotspot top in the East. Don't like Bruce's at all, but there's a whole thread dedicated to that :whistling:

Shop around.
I have found the Hotspot has most of the good deals price wise.

Also good knowledge if you talk to Johny or the owner Jacques.

Go and have a look at Solomons......I like their shop.

Then there is Singletrack cycles at the Hayzeldean centre.

They like their Cannondales a lot and the owner there is Barend who is always willing to help.

Bruce are sometimes good and sometimes bad.  All depends who of the staff you talk to.

Mostly Giant and Cannondale dealer.

I won't do Cyclelab/The bicycle Company......they almost never have anything and their staff are well trained in the art of fruit picking.....or something......

Their knowledge about cycling goods left me shivering all the way to the car.

I went light shopping and ended up telling the sales guy what is a lumen.

Went Polar V800 shopping and the guy asked me if it was a 29er or a road bike.

Lynnwood Cyclery is good but they only push Specialized.  So if you like the brand you'll love the shop.

That is about your options in the East......

Good luck.

I've made use of Hot Spot, Bruce, Solomons and Cycle Lab in Lynnwood and of them all Hot Spot is the best by far.

Great friendly service (also on the bikes) and good product knowledge.

Yeah - agree about Singletrack - bought a Cannondale from them a while back - very helpful.

Eish nee man. Must have been the casual staff they get in at times. I deal with Morne or Dana.

Point is, its a big shop. Lots of stuff. Sure they can order if they don't have.

Anyway, OP, shop around. There are plenty shops in the east. I would suggest that you stick with the one that doesn't ignore you when you walk in, that gives advice when needed, and not the one going for the kill selling the most expensive bike/gear possible.

Riding your bike is as much a trust relationship with your shop, as anything else
