Retailers selling on Classifieds

I don't know if anyone else is feeling the aggravation I am when searching through the classifieds on TheHub? I seem to come across the same retail shops advertising more and more and you have to go through a whole bunch of them before getting to what hubbers are trying to sell.

My suggestion - and I did mail TheHub but got no reply - is to have a separate section where retailers can advertise/sell their specials and keep the classifieds sections specifically for hubbers trying to sell their things.

Anyone else feeling the frustration or am I just pedantic?

nah I agree with you here.

I thought auto style was the worst offender, but at least they're selling stuff at great prices. And yet seem to have compressed their ads into one lately so that's cool.

But then, Tungha came along.

Dude is slinging Anatomic gear for more than anatomic sell it. And an individual ad for every day piece of clothing!!!

But there'll be a bunch who agree and a bunch who say get over it. Clearly admin don't mind, so until they do, it won't change.

I also agree they should be moved.

I see no reason why they can't each have their own thread in which to post specials like CWC do.

Cuz guys like ASG and CWC pay to have the kind of access to the site and threads that they do. It's unfair on them or everyone who calls themselves a retailer to hop on that bandwagon for free.

Free website, adverts/advertisers pay the bills. Thats why there's some retailers advertising in the classfieds, to keep things free, can't have your cake and eat it.

Maybe admin should start a subscription service, pay a monthly fee and all commercial/retail content gets blocked from subscribers view.

I agree, if you look at websites like mybroadband and carbonite in particular, you need to register to get an official account and pay subscription to advertise.

I understand it makes things easier for guys starting up shop to advertise in classifieds, but it's make for a cleaner site and helps the hub out.

Additionally it'll also help buyers, to contact a specific shops representative on the site for issues/returns/sales.

You're getting the wrong end of this stick.

The sponsors of this site, ie ASG, CWC pay to have the access they do. They normally (quite kindly too) post when they have major specials or new product launches - all of which I want to see first.

The problem we have is the guys go are simply advertising normal retail prices for crap that we could browse instead. They don't pay the hub for this privelege, but instead piggyback off the classifieds in order to drum up business and site clicks (which brings in advertising revenue for them in turn, too).

I do find myself partial, however. I'm not normally annoyed by these guys who do advertise incredible deals, like sportsworld tends to do. But I can't stand the guys who are advertising stuff at higher than RRP prices.

All it does is dilute the value of the classifieds to the everyday hubber trying to buy/sell their spares.

From thehubsa point of view, it does of course give them higher classified content numbers and views. They then use those stats to sell Site Advertising space which makes them money. So a bit of a rock/hard place for them.

I suppose we will have to deal with it, but i think it's fair to all parties involved to introduce a "dealer" section (as you select this option when posting an ad anyway), so it prevents the dilution currently happening.
