Southeaster silliness

Was anyone else riding on Table Mountain last night?

I've never ridden in wind that strong before.

Got blown over twice on my route to the blockhouse.

At times the wind blew me uphill. Other times I had to really trap on my pedals to go downhill.

Complete silliness. But huge fun.

Hope the wind stays for a few days...

As a yougster we would regularly ride around in that string wind to a point where you actually barely moved while standing and cranking away.

Hmm wonder if I am still capable.

Sometimes we would use a towel as a sail on a skateboard to move around

I love it when the wind gives assistance uphill.

A couple of years ago we went up to the mast in wind like this. Man the head winds were killer but the tail wind was great as it pushed us up

STATEMENT BY THE DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORT AND PUBLIC WORKS
22 July 2015

Release: Immediate

Provincial traffic officers have been deployed to areas that have been affected by strong winds to help redirect traffic and offer assistance to motorists and road users.

Officers are monitoring the situation at the Huguenot Tunnel, where four trucks overturned between 17:30 and 18:00 yesterday due to strong winds. No one was injured during the incidents which occurred on the bridge near the N1 Toll Plaza. The tunnel has since been closed and will reopen once it’s deemed safe for motorists.

Kenny Africa, the Provincial Traffic Chief, says the winds must first subside in order for traffic and emergency services to assist the trucks, which have not been removed. “The situation is currently unchanged. Motorists will have to use alternative routes, including the old Du Toitskloof Pass,” he said.

The Bainskloof Pass is also closed after winds uprooted trees which were strewn across the road. Traffic officers are on scene and redirecting the flow of traffic. The Pass is expected to reopen during the course of today.

The safety of road users is currently the highest priority.

So strange in the heart of winter

Was impressed with my deep sections, held up well.
