Tenneco has officially announced that Marzocchi will be closing closing its doors. A few months ago we first heard Tenneco were searching for a buyer for the company as they were looking to transition away from the suspension business. It's apparent that didn't happen, and they are now are discontinuing the business. There will be far reaching implications to this event (warranties, sponsorships etc...) that we will have more information on shortly. But here is the initial PR to all their shareholders.

Tenneco Inc. (NYSE:TEN) announced today its intention to discontinue its Marzocchi motor bike fork suspension business and its mountain bike business, and liquidate its Marzocchi operations.

These actions are subject to a consultation process with the employee representatives and in total would eliminate approximately 138 jobs.Tenneco currently employs 127 people at the Marzocchi plant in Bologna, Italy and an additional 11 people in its operations in North America and Taiwan.

Tenneco intends to assist its motor bike customers with the transition of current production to an alternative supplier and expects to complete the closure by the end of 2015.

Further proof that the cycling industry is not healthy.

If a company like marzocchi can't find a buyer then the competition is incredibly tough with no room for any mistakes.

My first air sprung fork was a bright red Marzocchi Bomber (with all of 80 mm travel) on a Giant hardtail. Very reliable and probably still at work somewhere....

They have been in k@k for about 5 years now, since Fox and Rockshox really took over market share. My first hydraulically damped fork (back in the days of elastomer forks - hands up who remembers those :whistling: ) was the Marzocchi XC with a whole 50mm of travel  but it sure beat a rigid fork and an elastomer fork...

True, it might not be of great significance to Saffas, But there are those of us who know just how good their stuff could be. They made some crap too that today is probably worth nothing more than its value in nostalgia. But when their stuff was good. It was ******* good. They had quite a religious following abroad. The gravity stuff from mid to late 2000s was way ahead of its time. Their fit and forget reputation was unmatched.

They will be missed.

Here is some behind the scenes action from Marzocchi's Twitter apparently, according to the comments in the article.

"Announcement made....buyer now trying to close a deal!"

"Marzocchi just tweeted that they're not dead. Production will continue. Guess we can expect more tomorrow?"

"Marzocchi MTB is open for business. We are only being sold. Not closing. Marzocchi Moto is closing."

There is still hope. I had one of these on my DMR Trailstar back in 2002.
