Hi all

Not sure if this will work, but trying out the forum.

My brother just landed in Durban after a long flight from Perth.  He flew out to compete in the Durban Ironman this Sunday.

Unfortunately, SAA smashed his bike.  It was Large Giant TCR, he's 1.89m tall and 80kgs.  He's power on the bike.

Is there any solution forum members can come up with to try get him on a road bike so that he can actually still compete?

Probably a long shot.. but if anyone has a suggestion that'd be great!

Please DM me or reply on this thread.

I am travelling from abroad to do the race. If for whatever reason my bike is either lost or damaged, will I be able to do the swim leg without checking in my bike?

No. If this happens, come to us, we will speak to the official bike shop.

Just an update on this post.  Given that i do not cycle, and am definitely not placed to pass judgment on products, i need to make the following disclosures (discovered post the race):

1. My brother had the bike bag in his car for months after buying it

2. the first time he took it out was the day he was leaving

3. this means the first time he ever fitted his bike into the bike was the day he was flying

4. he couldn't fit it right the first time he tried. he phoned a friend complaining the bike didn't fit

5. he eventually got it fitted, at least it zipped up with the bike inside, apparently having followed the instructions

6. he packed in an absolute rush and last minute

7. he was not meticulous in checking the bike in.  no fragile stickers, no reiterating the importance of 'handling with care'

8. there are other cyclists he knows who have used the bag countless times without complaint and hence his initial decision to go with it.

therefore, before bashing the bag, bash the human.
