PPA have their faults, but seeding is not one of them.

I'm a PPA member but I disagree on this one. The mtb seeding system is complete overkill, seeing small groups of 10 people start while you have to wait at the back to start with the other temps is stupid & frustrating. You don't need more than 2 or 3 (at most) start groups for most mtb funrides.

Also the system where only PPA member results show is stupid, even to PPA members it is useless when a big portion of the riders aren't PPA members. There are more and more mtb races in the western cape who manages to have seeding & online results without PPA's assistance, they don't have the monopoly anymore and needs to wake up.

With PPA membership being so cheap I don't see the fuss. Pay, get timed, get seeded, get started in front.

Rouxenator - I agree and that is what I do, but I still say time & technology caught up with their system - they need to adapt otherwise they will become irrelevant in mtb'ing

A few rides have moved away and then back again to PPA. Considering they charge a fee to host the event I am guessing event planners still see it worth their while to use PPA which could only mean they have a big enough rider base that will enter.

About the seeding system, I guess it is the best they can do taking into account rider patterns. Someone like me that does pretty much all the rides they offer have more chances of putting out three good results which will be used for my seeding. Statistically I do not ride that pace all the time but I end up in MC anyway and finish 26/32 like I did this weekend.

Likewise someone else who only does two or three PPA rides a year will also end up with a seeding they may not be a true reflection of their normal pace. However if you have to come up with a formula that can be applied to everyone I think what they have now is the best compromise.

In general they have some good rides on their calendar and I enjoy most of them. Dirtopia/AMA rider also has some nice ones and there are some independent rides that are just as good.

I'm also confused. Racetec usually have results up within 12hrs of event. However, for this event, still nothing.

Does any1 know what the total acsent was for the 75 and 50km?

1 107m on 55km on Strava

There were quite a few more entrants for this race, I was told that some bailed and never completed whilst others came in after the timing mats were rolled up. as far as I know, your result will only reflect if you rolled over the timing mat at the finish line. I wonder how many riders rolled over the mat at the start. Any1 know?

I got 1488m on the 73k according to Strava and 1882, according to Sports-Tracker

Thanks.

nearly 400m difference? quite a lot. Which is the more accurate of the 2?

Altitude gain based on Strava (or other GPS only trackers and smart phones) will show a high degree of error. One can get much closer to actual altitude gain with a device that has a barometric altimeter, eg Garmins, Polars, etc
