Its actually sad to see there are no more big ultra's before the Comrades. I used to do the Longtom, Jock of the Bushveld( Baberton to Kaapmuiden) and the Loskop one. No only Loskop is left.

ok so initially i was in for running my first 21km in 7 or so weeks, this being the Om di Dam, but now i have entered on a whim the PWC 21km on sat this week.

while my training has been going well i think i may have pulled the trigger a bit to soon. i think i am going to hurt lots and am actually sh*t scared but am looking forward to it.

will feed back on Monday if i live.

Good luck, don't stress about it. It is your first one, doesn't matter what your time is. It is going to hurt but it is a great accomplishment. Think of it as 5 water tables, don't count the kilometers.

There's still a Few about

Om die Dam 50km

Two Ocean 56km

Loskop 50km

Old Slowmag 50km (has a new sponsor this year)

and now the new Irene 48km that is fast/flat and is good for seeding as seeding times are based on a 48-50km bracket.

and if you up for a Roadtrip the Official Comrades Route Tester runs from Hillcrest to PMB this year on the last 61kms of the route... R50 and fully supported with roving waterpoints etc.

We did it last year and its worth the trip

We have Om Die Dam, Easter 100 (poor man's Two Oceans) and then Loskop. Most clubs like RAC have a 60km or some sort of long run.

Not 100% sure of the date for 2017 (too depressed keeping my head in the sand)

But I think it "may" be the weekend after Oceans this year.

Keep an eye on the below link (still last years flyer at the moment)

And take it easy.   Sommer work in structured walks from the beginning, it will benefit you later.    You are not trying to run a record, you are trying to make 21km's without doing any damage.

G'Morning - Anyone from CPT that know how extensively the mountains has burned around the Redhill course for tomorrow? That is an unbelievably beautiful route, but I know some sections has burned in the last week or so. Just trying to establish how much of the distance we will have to endure soot and how much will have the usual fabulous scenery...

I'm struggling a bit with my health... much of my December was wrecked with flu and a tummy bug, and now this week I've got heavy post nasal drip and haven't trained at all since a 21km on Sunday. Mon/Tues I was feeling great, just recovering the legs, but Weds I started to feel a bit under the weather. Have managed to keep it in check and stopped it progressing, but with Johnsons Crane marathon next week I'm really wary of getting properly ill.

I haven't upped my training anything significant, so can't see it really being that. Unless I just still haven't recovered properly from December and going hard at the half marathon was a mistake?

Nutrition wise I eat pretty healthy I reckon - my average day consists of something like this:

Breakfast smoothie: Future life, banana, dates, almonds, seed mix, cranberries, full fat yoghurt and full cream milk

Lunch: Tuna/Chicken/Egg mayo or Pilchards with a few Provita and an apple or tomatoes

Dinner: Protein(fish/chicken/steak) with two servings of veg.

I don't snack much between that, but if I do it's usually almonds, fruit or a bit of full fat yoghurt

Can anyone see any holes in this? Am I maybe eating too little? I'm 89kgs and exercise on average around 4/5 times a week.

What do you guys supplement with? I take Slowmag every day along with a general immune booster(vit C and B). A little protein added to my smoothie on the mornings I run.

Feeling very frustrated, finally got my legs on board and now I'm struggling with my health

Any input welcome

I use Pharmaton as my supplement, and after every hard training session and long run i use 100% Pure Whey Powder.

Works for me. Helps me recover quickly. I also used those Ginsana Tablets. Boost your immune system.

Read through the post twice again and my impression is that it would seem like you have not fully recovered from whatever December threw at you! You're probably going to be forced to pick between trying to continue training through this and it taking far longer to get fully over it, or ease back a bit, readjust some training and race expectations and get over this properly!

the post nasal drip....this time last year I got knocked down with flu...and ever since then I have been on and off having post nasal drip. Been keeping it kind of in check with ACC200. Then started with Texa 10 antihistimene tablets about a week ago and I swear it is making an improvement...which obviously makes sense because one of the big causes of PND is allergies...and it is allergy time

as for the me...My first week back with daily runs and my legs are definitely tired. I usually do the very hilly Kearsney Striders 21k (which is on Sunday)..but with it being the first real week back and my PF still lingering...I am gonna give it a skip and do some fun orienteering running on Saturday.

Lexx - how is the ankle?
