ScottCM Posted April 5, 2016 Author Posted April 5, 2016 Dot know if you guys have seen this: CMA Race Director, Rowyn James has advised that Joseph Mphuthi and Sandile Ngunuza who claimed the 6th and 9th positions respectively at last year’s Comrades Marathon have been suspended by the national drug testing authority, the South African Institute for Drug-Free Sport (SAIDS). http://www.runnersworld.co.za/news/suspension-of-2015-comrades-athletes/
SwissVan Posted April 5, 2016 Posted April 5, 2016 (edited) Interesting So I would deduce the average Bronze Hopeful would be training at between 5.30-6 min per km so April would be between 320 and 355 kms for a Bronze Runner based on 32 hours If you took those same Hours for a 4.30per km (training paces) Silver runner or 5min per km BR hopeful you would get 385 - 435 kms And I'm pretty sure the Hours will be even higher on those programs My wifey runs a bit slower on avg than that, she got in about 340 km for MarchAccording to LP these are the guidelines for pacing during training: Bronze The majority of training runs are at Easy pace (E) Bill Rowan Silver Edited April 5, 2016 by SwissVan Ferret69 1
Stretch Posted April 5, 2016 Posted April 5, 2016 my km last year were J 281F 263M 307A 290M 195 so I would say those deduced km figures are pretty high for a bronze. I would guess an average bronze will be doing anywhere from 700 - 1200 total mileage for the year As a matter of interest - in an effort to knock 30 min off this year it is J 293F 295M 392 thought for the day....what is the km equivalent of mileage.....kilometerage? or just distance SwissVan 1

If you cant comfortably finish a marathon in under 3h30m a Bill Rowan is going to take a lot of effort on Comrades day.

If you cant comfortably finish a marathon in under 3h30m a Bill Rowan is going to take a lot of effort on Comrades day. It's huge step just contemplating entering..... My marathon pb many many moons ago was 3h20 which was based on "uninformed training and youth", I'll see how "age and cunning" works out later in Oct when I might try qualify early with a attempt to run a sub 3h30 When do the comrades accept qualifying marathons from for the next year?

Mind u in those days she just ran with a simple watch, no dedicated training plan and did not record any distances....

SwissVan Posted April 5, 2016 Posted April 5, 2016 Talking about that 3h20 marathon time reminds me of a few years ago when i went for an annual check up and after completing the ecg stress test on a bike the Dr (who is a runner) was impressed... and asked what my best marathon time was... not thinking properly i replied 2h20 instead of 3h20.... he was even more impressed and i wish LOL
Jaws677 Posted April 5, 2016 Posted April 5, 2016 It's huge step just contemplating entering..... True :-) I always said Ill do it when I turned 30 ,and I did an up and down run, then I said Ill do again when Im forty , two years to go SwissVan 1
Stretch Posted April 5, 2016 Posted April 5, 2016 True :-) I always said Ill do it when I turned 30 ,and I did an up and down run, then I said Ill do again when Im forty , two years to go I have had a brother in law who runs every year for now 17 years....every year for the past 17 years I used to say to him..."i will run with you next year..." until i eventually did it last year!
Stretch Posted April 7, 2016 Posted April 7, 2016 little set back. Definitely not doing my ultra this weekend which is a bit disappointing. pulled my calf playing with the kids on the sand dunes as a result of fatigued muscles from a heavy week the week before. Getting better, but not going to risk 52km. So rather going to try a small 20 this weekend on Sunday..and aim for organising a private route-tester on the 24th...rather be safe than sorry
gg2 Posted April 7, 2016 Posted April 7, 2016 sorry to hear Stretch and hope it mends well.never managed to meet at any races but let me know if you do plan the long one and want company......cheers Stretch 1

SwissVan Posted April 7, 2016 Posted April 7, 2016 Sorry to hear Stretch, rather iron out the niggles now than suffer later
