Lexx Posted November 20, 2017 Posted November 20, 2017 Gerda is a machine. 3.30 per km. That's super fast. Bloukrans and Barry Stuart 2
Barry Stuart Posted November 20, 2017 Posted November 20, 2017 I did a few Club Runs with Gerda after her 2015 7h15 breakthrough.. she didn't have a sub3 marathon at that time....the leaps and bounds she has made since then are unbelievable.. Personally I don't think Ann is fast enough to cope with this new crop.. She has a 2h48 Downhill marathon PB ( I stand to be corrected).. On their Day Camille/ Caroline and Gerda should be way too fast.. they all now have 2h37 marathon Pbs ... And I personally know the LEAP from a 2h47 marathon to a Sub2h40 is MASSIVE.. I rate Ann for a Gold but it would take some serious blow ups for her to podium IMHO. The New Massmart team however did take the top 3 spots at Kaapsehoop Marathon (all 2h52-2h55) so they are already an improving team. Ja, on the back of that performance Gerda might have to displace Ann in my predictions. I'm still going to keep Ann in my top 3 as a bit of a dark horse. Although she doesn't have the out and out pace of people like Gerda, I think she's got the mental focus and grit to run a podium if that's what she's chasing. Like this year, my big regret about running the Comrades will be the fact that I'm unable to watch the race itself.
Barry Stuart Posted November 20, 2017 Posted November 20, 2017 Any of you guys in the Northcliff, Linden, Victory Park, Blairegowrie area? I'm starting a low key 5km "time trial" on Thursday mornings that begins and ends, conveniently, at Yield coffee shop. Going to do the first one this Thursday (quite likely I'll be the only one that pitches, but you've got to start somewhere, right?) and Marelize, the owner, has promised discounts for any runners. Start at 6:15am, timer will be displayed in the window and you just write your name and time in the book as you finish. I might move the run to a Tuesday morning if that proves more popular. Lexx Posted November 20, 2017 Posted November 20, 2017 I See on Instagram, Gerda does a lot of cycling as well. .
Stretch Posted November 20, 2017 Posted November 20, 2017 (edited) There's a challenging Strava segment on 4th 5th or 6th that I've tried for a couple of times.... You have to include that in your time trial... As well as up south road which is a great uphill for training Edit.. That was meant to be in reply to Barry Edited November 20, 2017 by Stretch Barry Stuart and Lexx 2

That was meant to be in reply to Barry Are you talking about the 400m 6th street repeat segment or the tough hill from Tana road up to 6th Street? My main challenge has been to avoid running directly across a street so I've had to plot a course that allows runners to either stay on their side of the road or cross the road diagonally whilst running between two streets (so that they can time it for a break in traffic rather than sprinting straight across the road).

Barry Stuart Posted November 20, 2017 Posted November 20, 2017 That 400m little bastard! Aye, there's one for each direction on 6th and on 7th. They're proper lung busters but great incentive for those 400m repeats. I still haven't managed to dethrone the two guys that hold them on 6th. I need to ask Wayde to wear my watch. Lexx 1

Just checked my Strava..I last did it march 2016... And lying at a feeble 19th on the list. I was in the top 10 at some point... Currently there is some ass with the cr Lexx and Barry Stuart 2

But would have involved some bent over heaving and heavy breathing at the end of the segment..somewhere near that little guard hut Yeah, I also feel like I need to get my 400m repeat times down to sub 3/km next year if I'm going to really improve my marathon times. It's fine for a single, flat-out sprint, but as you point out the result is heaving and farting and gnashing of teeth at the end rather than a gentle jog before starting the next repeat.

Like 3:02 I think... But also almost died at the end. Intervals certainly keep us in check.. ferret prob does a 15min 5km with his eyes closed! Hacc and Barry Stuart 2

Pieter1 Posted November 20, 2017 Posted November 20, 2017 Sorry to derail here. My knees are badly swollen now. They dont hurt but the muscles are all watery and dont go hard when I flex them. Has anyone had this? Is it normal? I would not even know what to google. The only pain I have are the muscles that cramped.
