I drink a full 750mm bottle with a rehydrate - hardly ever stretch3. Scrambled egg on toast is my usual go to meal, tea with sugar, maybe an energy/protein bar.4. wind down and chill, try to get off my feet for at least 2 hours, hardly ever nap.5. get on with the day Edited November 2, 2016 by shaper

For a race that's historically never got it right - this is some serious high horse, illogical idiocy they are enforcing on their customers... Never mind the inconvenience of the number collection/enforced marketing bollox to force two trips out to Soweto on clients, but not allowing distance downgrades is dangerous, stupid, illogical and will ultimately cause them more headaches than history would suggest they can handle... should be some fun and games come Sunday Edited November 2, 2016 by Andrew Steer

It only happens when you get into the shower afterwards. I am due for an upgrade as my Garmin Forerunner 620 lasts less than 10 hours. Seeing that bonus month is in December I guess it is a good time to upgrade (Christmas gift to myself). It is on my bucket list to do 70.3 in 2018... So my question is which watches should I look at and compare? ( I am a Garmin fan) Edited November 2, 2016 by Hacc
Hacc Posted November 2, 2016 Posted November 2, 2016 I can't look at food or eat anything for up to two hours after a long run, and then I am dead hungry. A sports dietician suggested I drink Peptopro mixed with Energade not longer than half an hour after finishing a long run. I tried it two weekends ago and it tasted disgusting!It is very expensive but it seemed to help. I will try it again after Kaapse Hoop. (I guess I will get rid of the terrible taste by drinking alcohol )
Andrew Steer Posted November 2, 2016 Posted November 2, 2016 After a hard run I sit down and hurriedly upload my run to Strava while fighting away the tears from the sweat that has engulfed my eyeballs. I'll then drink some coke, before trying to overcome the pain (and hide that funny GuVaselineCokeDeepheat smell) with a few beers and a boerie roll. After the food and drink runs out, I get up, wince a bit and curse the fact that I never did my "post-run recovery-stretch", before bidding my club mates farewell and wobbling back to my car for the long drive home - focus here switches to making it back home safely before my clutch leg goes into cramp or my body finally gives in to the long overdue rigor mortis. Once home I hide from my kids, dogs, wife and anything else that might require any form of effort to keep entertained. A sneaky swim is magic if i can pull it off, but the risk of getting caught by the kids generally sends me to plan B: eat everything delectable on site to make sure I don't lose any weight despite burning 5 brazillion calories. Once my kids find me, I go hide in the shower after distracting them with "their" shiny new medal. The shower spray 'gently' reminds me with all of satans fury of the weird spot I somehow missed with the vaseline or sunscreen... there's always one spot! Finally time for that post run stretch, I attempt a pathetic Mr Bean'esque toe touch, which sadly barely resembles a knee touch, which ultimately is my sign to throw in the towel on this stretching ordeal and go hide on the couch and watch sport for as long as humanly possible... Old version or the new HR version is a more personal debate, but it's pretty much the ultimate Running/Tri watch and the pricing ha gotten a lot more enticing! Jigghead 1

I've been battling injury for the whole year and am now ready to run a 21km run. Not a 42km by a long shot. I am however, entered into the 42km run as I thought I'd be able to pull it off. What would stop me from running the 21km with a 42km number? I really don't need an official time, but I'd like to do the event as it's been a target for me since entering and I'd be properly bummed to miss it. As for the food, I try to go for a coke, closely followed by a beer and a burger where possible. Used to be a cigarette as well, but I'm proud to say that I've been clean for two weeks and I'm certain it'll stick this time. I've had zero cravings, so far. This is not 2 oceans where the 21 is in demand..let people downgrade. And then allow for number collection that is also stupid. Added to that, I heard last year the first two tables didnt even exist because the people just hightailed off with all the coke etc!

Temperatures neared 35-40deg and they had no water for the last 25% of the race. They're full of shite, the vibe is incredible, that's why I'm so keen to do even the 21km.
