Now, I'm a big Shurter fan, but I'm just wondering...he sits behind Absalon in the last lap, "chilling" until the last moment before he attacks? Isn't it a bit of a d**k move - drafting till the last opportunity?

Gen Posted August 23, 2015 Posted August 23, 2015 Nino.. almost always starts very fast and Julian has to play catch up for a lap or so.. .. in Cross country it's always full gass... def no resting and wheel sucking) I am now currently on 6 laps to go (spent the day at the cricket, so catching up on all the cycling I missed)

Isn't it a bit of a d**k move - drafting till the last opportunity? It's pacing, not really drafting and yes it does allow for some recovery. That is a part of the tactics in XCO, gets played by everyone.Sometimes the rider in front may accelerate/attack to break the rhythm of the rider/s pacing them or to gauge their strength. Might well have been Absalon felt he could take Nino on, or rather imho with a loss of front tyre pressure couldn't make any real tactical moves and was playing things out.
