Sugar Free

Ok, so there are a few threads dedicated to nutrition/weight loss/healthy living.

Most of them touch on the subject of the dangers of Sugar. But my search did not reveal a dedicated Sugar free thread.

As of today i have been sugar free for one month. It started as a challenge for the month of August, but I am really enjoying the benefits.

My whole family has gone sugar free....even the kids.

My son, aged 5, was on Ritalin for ADHD. We removed sugar completely and stopped his medication. We have not told his teacher. We recently had a 1 on 1 and she told us that he is performing very well and we must continue his medication. His OT said the same.

In both consultations we burst out laughing and explained what we had done. Both Teacher and OT were quite interested to know more and are very impressed with the results. it si still early days, but the signs are encouraging.

I have lost 4 kgs in the month and feel more alert than ever. My thought process seems clearer.

Is there anyone else on a similar journey?

Awesome!!!

My wife and I do not take in much sugar as it is, or at least I should say we don't add it to our food and also leave small sweet treats for weekends only, but we are now also trying to cut it totally..

Will be watching this thread closely.

Edit: Actually going to message that bold section to her now, she has long said that ADHD is over diagnosed and sugar is most likely the problem...

For me the amount of hidden sugar was mind blowing.

what do you mean by cutting out sugar?

edit: saw your post, so its sugar and sugar containing/added food

what about fruit etc which naturally contain high amounts of sugar?

ps not trying to be funny, just need some info as I'm looking into weight loss "alternatives"

I don't eat any food with sugar in it.

I do eat fruit, but i do not drink fruit juice.

I don't use sauces on my food (unless i make it from scratch).

I also avoid artificially sweetened products.

To start, i would look at the ingredients label...if sugar occurred in the first three ingredients, i don't eat it.

Ja!! Some time ago we did our usual shopping, but separated the items with sugar from the ones without..  Think it was like 4(sugar) packets to half a packet..

Mind blowing...

so mostly cut out the sugar added to food to attempt to make it taste real

Oh, for the record, i must state that my only "cheat" is when i do rides longer than two hours.

I will use a carbohydrate based drink (usn pure fit) but only in these instances.

I've slowly started doing this. No more sugar in my coffee and / or tea, no sugar in my cooking unless it occurs naturally in the food itself (like the sugars in fruit and such) and I'm trying to cut out bread as much as possible.

I don't think I've made anything sugary in over 2 months. Even then I try to limit it as much as possible.

No sugar in sauces, no sugar in caramelized onions etc. Only sugar I'm thinking of using is in a recipe for bacon jam...
