I think you might be right there too, there are a few factors involved.

I am only allowed to have a small portion of meat (50g) today, 3 days after my fast ended. First day of refeed was only bone broth, second day I introduced soft veg, and now 3rd day of refeed regular food. Also the portions is only half my usual calorie intake for the first few days.

I could not even finish a cup of veg soup (at once) on my 2nd day as my stomach had shrunk so much?  ;)

Amazing to read what you are experiencing. Please keep updating.

Eddie thank you for a very balanced series of posts.

"Fad diets" can be dangerous, particularly because people rush in with half the story, and only commit partly ....

You clearly did a lot of homework on this.  And in consultation with your doctors.

Really looking forward to hear the outcome in terms of your original goal to reduce your "muscle scarring" (hope I got the term right)

Through me sessions with the dietitian I learnt one very valuable lesson - people are unique, and there is no single "recipe" that works for everybody.  I really hope all this effort and commitment pays off, and delivers the results you were aiming for.

Yes, agree, people have very different reactions, (and you need to consult a doctor)

I also joined an accountability forum whilst doing the extended water fast.

The guys experience many different symptoms at different stages, and it includes fasts of different lengths ie. OMAD, 3, 5, 7, 10, 14, 21 even 30 and 42 day fasts. These are also done with different supplements ranging from water only with electrolytes, to having coffee, tea, apple cider vinegar, broth, and taking daily vitamin supplements etc.

Depending on whether it is for weight-loss only or for autophagy, there is restrictions as to what you can take while fasting.

Additionally, the symptoms might range from extreme headaches, stomach ache, keto rashes, vertigo, general body aches, nausea,  etc. that is why it is so important to follow a extremely healthy diet before embarking on any fast to ensure your body has all the nutrients it needs. (you will need a tongue scraper too .. the body detox's properly :D )

I plan on doing at least one 21-day fast per year from here on out. Also keep with 16:8 OMAD on weekdays to keep my body use to ketosis.

I'm sure being fully fat adapted goes a long way to making the first few days of a fast a lot easier.

Most definitely, but I humbly have to admit that I started this last 21-day fast completely incorrectly, having just arrived back from a long weekend away in the Tankwa Karoo where I feasted on the local homemade "roosterbroodjies" was not the feed I intended to do before starting my fast   :nuke:  :nuke:

But by day 3 of the fast the headaches had mostly disappeared  ;)

The caffeine withdrawals is probably the worst part though.
