I'm going to throw a name in the works many wont know of perhaps. Cuore are a swiss brand and their bibs are awesome! I've owned older model Asos (Mille S6 I think) and these have a very similar fit and construction. The paddling is really good and also reminds me a bit of slightly older Asos models. At R1900 not cheap but compared to Asos I must say they are pretty great value for money. http://ellipsiscycling.com/collections/cuore/products/cuore-swiss-classic-silver-bibshort

I say got the personalised version.

I've had my clothing made by margyn promotions for the last 10 years and am really happy.

A little bit more than the run of the mill stuff but waaaaaay cheaper than the assos/giordana/imported etc stuff.

A good manufacturer will do little things like: I like my shorts a little longer and my shirts a little shorter. Plus you get to choose which chamois you like (gel insert of course), which short design you like etc.

Winner winner in my book.

i went for a bike setup today and the setup guy showed me the cause of my raw tender butt ...the chamois is a little too small for my big butt...so what is happening is the first accent bib stitching along the outside of the chamois is rubbing the skin raw...so now to read through all the replies and figue out which one to get...i believe a bib should be seen as an investment towards a comfortable rid...not as a cycling expense

thanks for the replies.

Some personal experience over the past 4 years transitioning from a beginner to being a relatively serious MTBer:

Started out using padded shorts from which I transitioned to bib's.  Big improvement.  Then rode the entry level First Ascent bib for just over a year and while it's not bad, it's also not great.  Then forked out some more for one of these (http://www.firstascent.co.za/shop/mns-pro-elite-bib/) at the start of 2015 and was amazed by the improvement. Well made and zero discomfort up to 5 hours in the saddle at a time.  Very different design to FA's entry level kit, much better fit, and the chamois makes the cheaper models look like kitchen sponges.

Need to agree that if it's comfort you want, then you'll need to pay more.  Most would like to own Assos kit, but I really can't fault the First Ascent Pro Elite bib.  Also need to agree on an earlier comment - use chamois cream, it really does work!

Hey Mawbs,

The Craft elite products are known be have a "Performance" size curve. Items are made to sit a bit tighter...

The item you are referring to is pretty much standard sizing.

thanks for that, so if i am normally a 32 then would i order medium or large ??

i recently purchased another brand and even their large ( 34 ) is tight ( actually had to modify the elastic to wear them )

The Cuore bibs have a really nice big pad.

Vermarc most definitely.

I bought Craft once, fitted them for the wife. Was duly ordered to return them to the shop. The padding in front, for some reason, doesn't come up as high as other brands. Lets just say some detail was evident from the front ????????????

on a side note, any idea where you can get a Cuore jersey in SA?

Idiot Edit: Just noticed the link. go about your business and ignore my Q. ;)

I had Craft performance but for some reason it chafes my tottie, which means they are kaka.

Been using Pearl Izumi for the last 18 months and love them, got me a set of BioRacer on the way soon. Heard good things about them and when I tried them on they were pretty comfortable.

Those Vermarc bibs get great reviews. I am going to try a pair. I personally ride in Assos but those bibs seem to get better reviews and are half the price!
