Argus 2014. 2:53 https://www.strava.com/activities/118971302

Hope that helps.

Looks like

Top of Edinburgh: 24min

Top of Smits: 1:28

Top of Chappies: 2:14

Top of Suikerbossie: 2:30

Awesome thanks man. So my timing from my previous races is not far off. Both 2013 and 2014 I had mechnicals up smits and ended up with 3hr00min10sec and 3hr8min. But I looked at moving times and worked it from there. Your times are very similar to what I would have done without the mechanicals.

With no Vet groups, will 1A be full of VA, VB, etc riders? I've been slotted in 1A because of a fairly good 94.7 time but a bit concerned that I will be a bit out of my depth. I've never raced vets, just a couple local JHB races in A batch.

I am keen to go sub 3 but don't want to be blown out the back right at the start. Any suggestions - should I go back a group or two?

Yip 1A is the vets group. I'm racing tandem so not in that group but the rest of my team are all there. Its actually a big pity that you have to race with vets for the first time at this race. Vets racing is lekker but it does take a lot of getting used to. I don't want to scare you but just hang in for dear life and let the team's cover the attacks. Expect the flats to mostly be relaxed and the hills to be absolute murder. Good luck.

Thanks a mil. I just want to confirm, these split times are according to your 2h53 and not necessarily 3h00?

If I can do 2h59,59 I will be ecstatic. I reckon if I can then add roughly 5 mins to your splits I will be safe?

Out of interest, what was your 947 time?

It looks like he/his group raced really well doing the 2nd half quicker. His time from top of suikerbossie to the finish is fast. If you hit top of suikerbossie much more than 2h40m I don't think you will make it. Unless you in a well organised group that doesn't stuff around. So 5 min at the most for Chappies and suikerbossie. If you hit Edinburgh drive in 30 min I'm not sure you can pull it back.

Thanks LWB - I think I may drop back one.

Hi,I have a paid entry for the Cape Argus, due to a opperation i wont be able to make it. Im Selling it for R1500 including chip and shirt. I you know of someone that is interested

Firstly substitutions have closed already so unfortunately you can't sell it.

Secondly the chip is registered to you and you only. It has all your personal details and you use it for many races so you must keep that for future.

Lastly it's illegal to sell your entry for more than you paid for it. Its in the CTCT terms and conditions. The person buying your entry still has to pay another R250 for the substitution so they would end up paying R1750 for your entry so even if points 1 and 2 didn't exist you would never offload it for that price.

For those folks doing two laps, what is the fastest way to get from the finish of the first lap back to the start? Do you have to go through the medal/coke schlep? Advise will be appreciated because I am going to try pull this off if they allow me to start my second lap.

Note to organisers!!!!!! They should have a quick exit for you guys with a short route directly there.

Maybe they do already?

Yeah look 1 group back will probably ride the same time give or take a minute. Just will go about it differently. Not a bad idea but with a 947 time like that you must come ride vets sometime. I did a 2h27 in VA.

Hi guys,

Is there perhaps a list available of 'what to expect at the refreshment stations'? I'm doing a looooooong slow one (5-7 hours with plenty of stops). Can't find it on the website.

most (if not all) of the stops will have powerade, coke & water.

different stops will have different food / fruit treats.

Hi Everyone

what times would the seeding group 1D  typically run. Is a sub 3 possible with this bunch ?

I fairly new to the road riding scene, only recorded run thus far is a 3h09 in a windy PE VW Herlad
