Couldn't have asked for: better weather, better support or a better ride.

That was all just perfect. Great support too! What a special event. I missed the last two, but I'm so glad I rode today.

My first Argus. Was super fun, bar a scary moment where a guy in the bunch came in from the outside and caught my handlebar. He then proceeded to tell me that I need to decide where I wanted to ride. Ah well.

Saw a couple of nasty crashes. One broken nose for sure - the cyclist looked like he faceplanted hard.

Coming down Chappies there was an ambulance busy stabilising a guy. Looked like he missed a turn.

Started in 1C.  We caught a lot of (or all - more research needed) of 1B in Fish Hoek, and a big group of ladies in Simons Town.  From Fish Hoek to Smits it was one long elastic sausage with the middle of the bunch coming to a screeching halt on every small rise, with lots of swearing and unrepeatable anatomical references.  Same thing happened 2 years ago although somehow it didn't seem as bad.

I managed to get to the front up Smits, and stayed with the front until the start of the Suikerbossie decent when I lost them, although by then I think (hope, for the sake of my pride) the group was mainly 1Bs and 1As.  About 10 of us from 1B, 1C, %, and 1A made a good small group and got me to the end in 2:51 roughly.

Pleased with my time, even if the first half was a bit crazy.

I would have thought they would get their effing camera work up to date!? Having to watch the sprint from the helicopter camera? And get some proper m/cycle riders for heaven's sakes! They were always in the way on the downhills!

Congratulations Clint!

Just watched a few video shots of the finish on FB. As you say, shame you have to rely on homemade videos.

Looked like a good ride anyway.

Mostly the same further down the 1 groups. Don't think I've ever unclipped that much.

Great ride in 2D. The group split on Endinburgh (spelling) and came together again at Simonstown. The guys rode brilliantly to bring the groups back. But on Smitswinkel a pile-up ended the 1 group policy... A huge number if us got caught in the crash and formed small working groups up to the end.

To top it all off I started cramping at Misty Cliffs, and the last 10km felt like 1 long cramp. Bit my teeth and averaged 36km/h over the last 10km and finished literally in tears. Man that hurt. Time is around 3:42.

Loved the last 15km or so. Found a few guys to work with and did 35-40km/h average, over the distance. Ended with 3:45 from 3B.

Bad luck Dale.

Had a good ride from 2a with club members.

One minor touch of wheels on Smits, but thankfully no major crashes.

Good weather. Hope everyone had a good time.

Thank, aVenge & others for the cool and positive comments.

So relieved to have no physical harm. :P

Phew!

Roll On In Peace, awesome hoops.

The best I've owned.

Rim damaged and spoke broken.

And, again, what a special festival celebrating cycling in South Africa.

May lots of the moola go to awesome causes and initiatives.

The cycling gods were on my side today:

  • On the fast descent to Misty Cliffs, guy next to me told me to shift to the small ring at the front. I had no idea what he was on about until I looked down and noticed my chain had dropped off and was hanging down around my pedal. Shifted to small chain ring and it popped back on! Learnt something new today. If he hadn't said anything I probably would have stopped to sort the chain out. A huge thank you to the guy in red with the skull and crossbones cycling shirt
  • Broke a spoke, after the finish line
  • Did a PB of 3:24

2A was a bit hectic up front with a cervelo team doing a lot of damage to the main field. We caught 1G - 1J & if not more along the route. Anyone know who they are? I picked up that it was a mix of UK and SA guys. I managed a 03:07

Did anyone else feel that the elite ladies should have started abit later? Group 1B cought them within minutes from the start.
