Local Brands

I would just like to get idea from the hub community how they would feel about the following story.

I decided to support one of our local cycling gear suppliers (Anatomic), and purchased a R950 cycling top. It was really smart and I felt great racing in it a few weeks ago. I even had a lot of compliments on how smart it was.

Arriving at a race a week later, I put my top on, and unfortunately the zip come off and the zipper peeled open.

I took my top back to the manufacturer in the hope that they would swop the top, but their policy is repair no exchange.

I have a few concerns on this, as if they unstitch the existing zip the material of the shirt will more than likely have marks, and if they just force the zip back on, it will most likely break again. At R950 a top, I could have rather bought a Craft or Castelli top, which if the same thing happened, the bicycle shop would have swopped the top.

What are your thoughts?

I have bought quite a few garments from the Anatomic factory store in CT and haven't had any problems. Their Ergonomic bibs are very comfortable and good value for money.

Please change your topic title.

There are many other local brands that have nothing to do with this. (Pyga, Momsen, Morewood, USN, First Ascent, Cape Storm, Velotex and a few more.)

The OP is asking what the community thinks of her particular experience with a particular local brand. She has not knocked any other local brands.

OP: Trying to support local is good, hope the problem gets resolved fairly for both parties

His? Megs are you a him or a her? I bet this answer would be a factor in many of the comments the guys are making about actually wanting you to replace the zipper

Megs, first up, thanks for the support - we love the Euro Pro top and we're hoping to change peoples perceptions on the Imported stuff being better than local.

Things like this don't help of course, but zips do break, it's almost part of life I guess (death, taxes - you know the drill) - its happened on my Levis, on my overpriced Adidas jacket. We do though of course wish it never happened!

This is for the record the 3rd zip malfunction we are aware of (out of around the 160 odd we have sold so far) which is too high a ratio for our liking - the zip is in fact being changed for all future versions of the jersey. This zip was bought specifically for this shirt in light of it's very suitable aesthetics. The body hugging, tight-fit nature of the shirt it seems is probably placing the zip under a bit more strain than usual.

Your shirt is going to the factory this week for the zip to be replaced. I hear your concerns on the picked stitching being visible, but I can assure you it (picking) is a big part of any sewing process and the forgiving nature of most polyester and Lycra garments makes it a very viable option. We do though promise to replace the shirt entirely should there be any signs of the zip change.

We're also going to offer you 25% of any other Anatomic item in the shop as an apology for any inconvenience - apparently you quite fancied our Classics shirt.

If you have any other concerns, please send me a pm or contact Pieter at the Johannesburg Factory shop 011 782 0182. He will of course be in touch as soon as your jersey is ready.

Kind regards

Andrew
