Yeah the caddy is way more versatile than the touran.

Have you considered other brands also like Renault, Fiat, peugeot partner etc?

My pick out of all of them would have to be the ford transit or mazda5

Yeah, but I'm looking to spend as little as humanly possible. Maybe nada, if I can swing a straight swap. The transit is brilliant, as is the Mazda, but I don't like spending cash on cars. They're a money-pit.

Myles - had stuff stolen from inside my van - they did not use a jamming device but used a scanner.

Yeah... that is a worry, but it's true for pretty much any car tbh. Not worth discounting a van just because they're able to be unlocked / jammed / use a scanner to get in.

If they want to get in, they can. It's just far more secure to have the bike inside than on a rack...

My folks roll with one of these in Milk Man blue. Its 3l environment murdering diesel 4x4, gets 4  bikes in easily without any wheels coming off. Never had an issue with theft from the thing.

They also have a fortuner now as well but not very impressed with the ability to load bikes in it like the CONDOR. It can get one without wheels coming off.

Nice thing about it is when you trek over some dirt road/rain etc when you get to your location your bike is spotless and even been climate controlled :P

If you rob a cash box/ATM/Armored vehicle/bank/jewelry store whatever. you might get shot dead, or end up getting "man-handled" in jail for 10-15yrs. But stealing a bicycle? its a simple, petty crime, EASY money. Its actually a crime that can pay VERY WELL. And the consequences??? Ummm nothing. Cops wont process a bicycle thief, they have better, more important things to do.

With bikes getting more and more expensive, selling a R40 000 stolen bike to a bargain hunter for 10k, is still 10k for 1 "job"......Steal 5 bikes and switch all the bits n pieces around, you have 5 "unique" bikes....possibly R50k.

As far as small panel vans go, look no further than the Nissan NV200. Hands down its the best value for money van on the market!!!!! 6yr/150 000km warranty....

My friends bicycle was stolen 2 weeks ago after a race from a bike rack. It was then advertised on gumtree and spotted by him. He went with the police to the seller in Brackenfell and got his bike back. He told me the guy had a room full of bicycles. I will get the police captains number and maybe people that had bikes stolen can contact him. He is from the Darling police station. The seller apparantly bought the bike from someone.

Where in Brackenfell, that my teritory. Want to know where to look for in the future.

Yeah baby, we fill it full of spares and staff making sure there is no space for riders. There is no retiring, finish or get a ride with the sweep truck.

I think it's also a case of what one would refer to as a series or connected crime. I'm assuming that bike thieves have people or "business partners" rather, whom they sell the bikes to. Most probably the said "partner" looks more credible, has cycling knowledge and is unsuspecting so it's virtually impossible to tell. when these "partners" sell stolen goods it will indeed be quite unsuspecting to any of us who buy them thinking that we're buying credible goods from credible individual strangers. As for parts going to other countries, I don't think that is prevalent here in SA and I'm not denying it but alluding on it as if it's a major issue would be disqualifying more prevalent assumptions. Like the case of seeing stolen bikes resurface on Scumtree and OLX.
