Cav' Posted July 5, 2016 Posted July 5, 2016 Puzzling how Matthews has been so quiet up to now. Some of these finishes looked to have been tailormade for him. Maybe carrying a niggle or chest cold or something. But I was expecting to see a lot more of him.Yeah, OGE usually has a good rep during the first week. I wont count Bling out just yet though, early days. (I see at least one stage win) After checking that finish of todays stage, even Allaphillipe or Valverde has a goood shot ftw.
HappyMartin Posted July 5, 2016 Posted July 5, 2016 OBE has some internal issues with not all the riders getting along.
Rocket-Boy Posted July 5, 2016 Posted July 5, 2016 OBE has some internal issues with not all the riders getting along.Yeah OGE needs to sort that stuff out, they were such a tight team in years gone by but with no clear leader etc its causing a bit of strife.

They portray themselves as such a "fun to be part of" team. What internal issues are there?
Rocket-Boy Posted July 5, 2016 Posted July 5, 2016 They portray themselves as such a "fun to be part of" team. What internal issues are there? They always were a fun team from all accounts. For the TdF they dont have a definite leader and are split between Gerrans and Matthews for certain things. Its almost like they are seeing who does best and will then push them up. Those things can cause rifts quite easily.
tombeej Posted July 5, 2016 Posted July 5, 2016 They portray themselves as such a "fun to be part of" team. What internal issues are there? Matthews/Gerrans rivalry. I reckon it started here.

Those things can cause rifts quite easily.I think (in my own infinite wisdom of course) they need to decide if they are going for a particular jersey (GC/KOM/POINTS) or for stage wins. For stage wins IMO Matthews is the obvious decision. I don't think they have a hope of winning one of the jerseys though. Maybe they should drink more of that stuff with all the X's on it... That will cheer them all up!
GrumpyOldGuy Posted July 5, 2016 Posted July 5, 2016 I agree with Sprocket, he seems to be a different man. It happens when you get older. The kind words to the team, the kids and stuff. There is more to life than just winning and racing. You eventually realise that. I never liked Cavendish and the worst for me was in Yorkshire when he crashed out headbutting Simon Gerrans. But these latest wins will be the most memorable for the guy I'm sure. Now there is no more pressure. He doesn't feel like he has to win. It's about more than just winning. It's about Qhubeka (perhaps). And helping/support others, the less fortunate. That's what happens to humans when your own basic financial and physiological needs are satisfied. And you look instead for self esteem and actualization.Indeed, an excellent conclusion and a nice post, as you get older you lose the will to change the world, it is what it is, the good and the bad, just enjoy it, whatever you do.
'Dale Posted July 5, 2016 Posted July 5, 2016 97km remaining from 232km Over the last several kilometres, the peloton, fully fed, has begun to take chunks out of the breakaway's advantage. It's now down to 3:30.
'Dale Posted July 5, 2016 Posted July 5, 2016 42km covered in the third hour by our breakaway men. The average speed for the day so far stands at 42.3km/h.
'Dale Posted July 5, 2016 Posted July 5, 2016 Sagan is up near the front, chomping on his lunch, as that group has to put in an unwanted period of effort to regain contact with the peloton.
'Dale Posted July 5, 2016 Posted July 5, 2016 It's hot out there as the sun breaks through the clouds and the riders make their way along these long, straight country roads.
'Dale Posted July 5, 2016 Posted July 5, 2016 Reminder of the break: Oliver Naesen (IAM Cycling)Alexis Gougerard (AG2R-La Mondiale)Markel Irizar (Trek-Segafredo)Andreas Schillinger (Bora-Argon18)
Stricker Posted July 5, 2016 Posted July 5, 2016 Thanks for the updates and please keep them coming for the less fortunate.
'Dale Posted July 5, 2016 Posted July 5, 2016 Meanwhile... ???????????? Sagan's Tinkoff team had their bus break down, and they are driving around in a replacement for the stage. That's not the kind of stress the riders really need, especially with the maillot jaune to defend, and Alberto Contador nursing wounds from crashes on stages 1 and 2.
