I wonder if Peter the Great can pull off a result, Would be impressive if he does. The sport has become so specialised (no pun) its really not something one can dip into and dominate, not unless .... or maybe he just gets lucky. My only displeasure in him doing this is that he is not on a Cannondale.

I think Nino, Julian and Max are likely to be the contenders, others might get lucky though. The incumbent Yuro blows hot and cold, he is inconsistent,

Others I hope to get lucky: Fumic , the fluke lickers and the doods from Guam and Timor

He himself says xco has changed so much since he rode as a junior..and he is very realistic about it.

But damn it is going to be fun to watch him race..be it near the front or near the back.

It also all depends on the start..and and I have now watch the start a lot of times.. it is long and wide enough to make up a lot of places before it starts narrowing.. but it's going to take a lot of energy moving up the field at the start. And as much energy as what he will use getting past the others the front guys will be using to go clear. So by the time he gets past other riders, the likes of Nino etc will be quite far ahead..

I would love to see him get a top10 [emoji106]

He has been working very hard on his start.. that's why he entered those races also made sure he started what was it 20sec after the elite field started with that night race he did to work on moving up the field.. and those 10 x1 min sprints the Specialized riders were doing on Monday/Tuesday.

He will start on Sunday with the best possible preparation he could do for it given the amount of time he had, that is a certainty and he also isn't there just to make up the numbers.. he will give his all.. will be interesting to see how far his all can take him.

I hope Kulhavy has mentioned the Epic to him...[emoji39]

Overheard in the Spaz house:

Christoph: So Jaro, Annika, have you guys told Peter about the Epic?

Annika shakes her head in the negative.

Jaro: No not yet.

Sagz: What is 'The Epic'?

Christoph: A stage race in Cape Town, South Africa.

Jaro: It's a nice race. Me, Christoph and Annika have all won it. It's fun race.

Annika: It's a pretty race. Goes through some pretty places. Well organised.

Christoph: Nice weather. Warm and sunny. Not cold like Belgium and France.

Sagz: Sounds good. Tell me a bit more.

Jaro: Well it's a two person team race. We would work well, I think. Some stages have good singletrack. Like we said, a fun race.

Sagz: So when does it take place?

Christoph: In March.

Sagz: Can't. Racing Spring classics with my new team. Would like too though. Maybe they can move it to accommodate me?

Christoph: Mmmm, will have to talk with Ironman inc maybe it can be done.

Sagz: Cool, for sure I will race if they can do that.

Or at least that's how I imagine that conversation might go down.

So much power between the 2 of them, they could win by a full day..

Sags would have to spend at least 2months here to do heat training[emoji6] ., he doesn't like the heat so much

I am sure that Christoph will be more than happy to host Sagz in Stellenbosch and show him and his wife the sights while he heat adapts in the Cape.

Ja Sagz and Cool Harvey would totally crush the opposition in the men's race. Would be highly entertaining to watch though!

He doesn't look that comfortable on the mtb. It must be a daunting prospect to come from flat road to extremely technical. Shame, poor guy.

But it was his decision. He made his iwn bed....

You know he was a MTBer first before he became a roadie, right?

Duh. Ja man ek weet.

Point is, to be at "ease" on extremely technical terrain, you need to ride and train on different challenging terrain.

From the pics he looks a bit overcome on the technical bits...
