forgotten1 Posted November 3, 2015 Posted November 3, 2015 This is truly devastating news, & the saddest thing is that a life of a man who has done so much for others before he did anything for himself, has been taken. Posts on a thread like this do no justice to a man that has joined husband and wife in marriage, baptised, mediated, counselled and consoled. He was a damn good cyclist, but he was a giant amongst men. There is no comfort in his passing, or words we could use to console his family. We really did lose a good man today. While I know Bart would have harboured no ill will or judgement against the driver of the taxi, it is hard for us to do the same. Accidents do happen, but they are more frequent these days. Lets think of Bart & Burry, lets ride aware and never just assume we are seen on the roads, or that the driver will give way. Lets ride like our lives depend on it, because ultimately they do. RIP Bart. Absent from the body, present with the Lord. ("Well done good and faithfull servant")
mazambaan Posted November 4, 2015 Posted November 4, 2015 Incredibly sad RIP. Read this with Time to Get the Hell out of Here.
Trackz Posted November 4, 2015 Posted November 4, 2015 Devastating. Only met Bart and Dalena a few times over the past 8 years and their humility in spite of their many cycling successes left a lasting impression on me. We have lost a legend. My thoughts are with his family. RIP Bart.
awesme Posted November 4, 2015 Posted November 4, 2015 apparently this was also a Taxi in yellow lane...Taxi drivers words, "I did not see him" Ye, they never see anything, because they don't look, it's for others to make sure you see a taxi. because of the "get away with anything attitude" is prevalent they will not change.because of the no punishment (held responsible) there is no incentive to change. G Was a buddy of mine, Rich, knocked from behind by a taxi in the yellow lane.Fractured L1 but will be ok, out for 6 weeks.Something really needs to be done.
VicanZA Posted November 4, 2015 Posted November 4, 2015 so that 3 cylists hit by cars in the past 9 days in and around klipriver. RIP Bart
BarHugger Posted November 5, 2015 Posted November 5, 2015 RIP ......condolences to family. Not nice at all.......especially this time of the year so close to holidays.
Bateleur1 Posted November 5, 2015 Posted November 5, 2015 Incredibly sad RIP. Read this with Time to Get the Hell out of Here. As I said before. I have a list of reasons I moved ... this was also at the top of the list. I know it would only have been a matter of time before it would be my turn.
Dirkitech Posted November 5, 2015 Posted November 5, 2015 11221473_836008259831761_2193531820089423106_n.jpg Jis, dit maak seer ouens.
HBO Posted November 5, 2015 Posted November 5, 2015 A month or so ago I also past a scene where a taxi driver hit a cyclist. Fortunately the cyclist were ok (ish). The taxi wanted to drive off but was stopped by other people, there was enough eyewitnesses. What really made me fumed was the attitude of the taxi driver. He honestly couldn't understand what the fuss was about, not to talk about his arrogance. RIP Ds. Nel
