I dont want free stuff (although it would be nice once in a while). Ive been riding bicycles since 1977....I think I should know by now how much stuff costs.

1. 2x Inner Tubes
2. R550 for a wireless CATEYE. (Entry level, I like to keep it simple)
3. 2X cheap and nasty steel scewers.
4. R200 for a cheap generic saddle

All this generic stuff I could have bought from Sportsmans.

BTW I work in the retail/service industry.

If you walked in looking like your Avatar I hope they tried to sell you a top and bibs! :P

I have been going to the same store now for 5 odd years. They know my bike, they now me and most of the Savage guys, they ask about what we up to, seeding etc which is nice.

They know I like getting my bike back on the same day from any service and are great okes.

I think its a case of you get out what you put in. I do not expect to be treated like a loyal customer, if I am not a loyal customer.

R550 + R200 = R750

tubes? Anything from R 50 to R 80. R750 + R160(taking the more expensive option??) = R910

R1240 - R910 = R330(R165 for a cheap skewer)

Dude if my maths is correct you didn't get ripped off, Yes maybe the skewers/ tubes where a bit expensive but the rest seems ok.

EDIT:spelling

hahahahahahaha I deal with customers all day long and I always bring my A-Game.

BTW I dont need a bib.....my grizzly beard soaks up all the schrapnel...hahahahahaha

"You get out what you put in" is C-A-C logic.....so what you're saying is, if Im a brand new customer I must expect to get treated like cr*p. Or they don't know me so I must f-off. Thats so wrong in all kinds of ways. Sportsmans wouldn't do that.

I am not talking about bad service,  I am talking about being treated like a loyal customer.

You should get good service upfront, but if you want to get "special" prices and "free" stuff you have to put in.

Sportsmans will never see you as a loyal customer nor go out of their way for you.

I say "special" and "free" as I do not ask for these as they are a business and are there to make money and keep the lights on. I pay for great service and at the moment, R35 tubes that I tend to go through about 4 a week.

If you're looking for the best service and great advice, go to William's Bike Shop in Somerset West.

William is a great guy and his mechanics are super.

One of the cables on my bike had managed to rub off all the paint on a small area at the front of my bike. When I took the bike for a service, they noticed it, cleaned it up, put a sticker over it to prevent rust, and changed the cable lay-out. It sounds like a small thing, but I noticed and I think its great that they noticed.

This isn't really a LBS problem. It's more of a general retail/service issue. I've had this same feeling walking into a car service franchise where I'm prepared to spend a sh!tload money to service my car/put a tow hitch on/buy new tyres, and it seems that the sales people cannot be bothered. What confuses me more is that sometimes said sales people is the actual owners. Don't they like money??

I have two LBS's in close vicinity. One guy is more knowledgeable than the other, but he almost never have stock. The other is bigger, but they have a few ghosts walking around, that normally give me the wrong thing(if I started there - yesterday had to take stuff back). So my normal train of events is ask the first one what's wrong, check if has stock, then go to the other one and tell them exactly what I need.

But wouldn't bikes have been cheaper in the Cape than other parts of the world in his time*? The Cape was kinda handy for ships coming from the East.

*Hypothetically...

ANC doesnt understand hypothetical only racist Jan
