Snapped rear axle

Whats wrong with the novatec? Not using them, just interested to know.

I build a lot of wheels with Novatec.  To me, one of the best value for money hubs around.   My gut feel is that they fail no more than any other hub, especially considering the numbers around, though of course I can't prove it.  If you are going to jump use steel axles.  Siezed bearings will destroy an axle so check regularly.

Give me a Novatec sealed bearing hub before any cup and cone hub and before a lot of others costing double.  Again, just my opinion.

Older Novatec rear hub, snapped it on my Friday commute home - walking on a Friday evening with bike is no fun, no cable ties or wire in Constantia suburbs to do the tie to the spokes - grumpy.

Still a fan of Novatec hubs, have campy on the roadbike and the spares are stupidly expensive. Shimano cup and cone on my older mtb are lots of work, sealed bearings are way easier.

As somebody a lot wiser than me said some time ago - front hubs are bearings on an axle, rear hubs are where you should do your homework and spend your money.

Nothing really - that's just a pretty common place for them to fail if they do.

my superstar switch evo rear axle failed too, apparently they are novatecs too...

but like said before, there are so many of them around these numbers are not surprising
