yep I am afraid so.

Other than a leisurely cruise around wood hill once a month I simply don't have time.

Trying to get two startups going working a really hardcore 9-5 and running my RSA business at night. Not to mention trying to raise two kids.

Things are a bit crazy right now. Struggling to keep up. [emoji20]

I could always help with SA while being stuck here....

So here is some of the ugly...

http://www.stuff.co.nz/national/89455976/live-homes-evacuated-as-christchurch-port-hills-fire-rage-out-of-control

1487179042830.jpgVictoria Park (another bike park adjacent to the new one). This is just 2km (as the crow flies) from my home.

This is the affected area as at yesterday evening

So much devastation.

So far:

  • 1850Ha burnt
  • 8 homes destroyed
  • over 1000 people evacuated
  • 1 helicopter down
  • 1 dead (pilot. Former SAS war hero).

As for myself, I have packed the car with important items (mostly sentimental and documents) and moved it over to a friend's house. The police haven't come round to evacuate my suburb yet, but they are working through a suburb just 2km away.

I'm away this weekend on that dirt bike adventure, so I won't be able to do anything after today. better safe then sorry, but I hope they get it under control soon.

Yoh Wayne hardcore - I stopped cycling for a few years after we got here, too, especially when the kids were born. And I ran my SA business for 5 years from this side, that time zone kek is absolutely no fun at all. But you know how it is, things will settle down and you'll be back on the bike for a massive comeback.

Oh ja and some more ugly, although this is self-inflicted. Last Friday I went out for an awesome dive and evening fish under an almost-full moon. Beautiful. Then, coming back in over the Whakatane bar, a bit of cloud and rain drifted in, making it a hell of a lot darker than I'd anticipated. Crashed my boat into the rocks HARD, stuffed the lower unit on the motor, bent the prop and put hectic gouges into the fibreglass bottom. Hit it so hard I totally forgot that my hull is CPC rated (which means even if holed it won't sink) and went for the natural reaction of panic mode.

Made it back to the ramp OK, with some serious zigzagging, turns out the boat wasn't taking any water.

Thought I would be in for a merciless ribbing from my mates/all and sundry, but the chaps have been uncharacteristically forgiving on this one. Apparently it could happen to anyone.

Damage of around $20 000. Thank goodness for insurance which even covers acts of stupidity. Good thing I am not an aviator, their experiences of 'controlled flight into terrain' tend to have more dire consequences...

First part of story (diving and fishing)- AWESOME!

Second part of Story (crashing boat) - That Sucks

Third Part of story (zigzagging like a muppet) - HA HA HA

Fourth part of story (being insured) - Well done on understanding life and being fundamentally prepared.

My overall verdict is - really glad you are ok and hope you get your baby back even better than before.

1st weekend without riding plans this year, it feels odd. (Looking at my bruised body, maybe a good thing though)

Also drove my car into work this whole week, feels horrible!

My emotional state is definitely linked to time spent riding (even if it is only commuting).

With this rain I might go give rock climbing a go this weekend, use those movie tickets I go last year August already from work (have no idea what's showing), work clothes shopping (in need desperately) ...hope things clear up by Sunday!

Edit: yip, 1st world problems...haha
