The first 2 1/2 days are pan flat - suited to 29" wheelsDay 4 was awesome and you needed some travel here and thereDay 5 & 6 had a lot of climbing, so you don't want a heavy machineDays 7 to 9 is the Sani2C, so a rigid 26" would be fine I don't know what sort of changes there will be to the 2016 route, but you don't need a 'trail' or 'all mountain' bike.

Its fits the budgetIts easy to repair with spare parts available cost effectively27.5 wheels are not slower than 29 wheels. you still have to pedal. For J2C a hardtail 29 would be adequate. If you want a full susser then Anthem 27.5
