I remember watching a clip with Suzi saying that they use Atta to gauge how big the base actually is before epic.

So, first/last? one done.

It's pretty tough, the climbs are ridiculous, long hot walks..

The technical stuff was fun. The wind at the end sucked. I didn't need that at all. Thanks for all the warnings in this thread, helped me keep my head ????????

First off - minor rant - Slightly annoyed with SASeeding, despite a string of ok results on SA Seeding timed events these past 2 years I was still seeded in the bottom half of the field, spent the first 4 hours looking for places to pass 100's of slower/casual riders on jeeptrack, why is it so hard to get a SA seeding index that remotely resembles my ability? - Rant off..

For the rest, what a beautiful route, was very tempted to stop and take photos. Luckily took it easy the first bit as adviced here on thehub. The stretch through Attakwaskloof was not as tough & technical as I anticipated, but after the Spur stop I realised those hike-a-bikes up the steep climbs maybe took more out of me than I expected. Once we rode through those forest sections I felt the familiar onset of cramps so for then on granny did all the talking on those steep climbs. The wind was not as bad as I thought it would be but maybe I was too tired to notice.

Missed out on my Sub 7 goal by about 15 minutes, think the problem is that in my training program a 3h00 ride is considered a long ride and 3h30 extremely long, really suffered those last 40km! Very glad I ticked of this one of the list, definitely one of the best mtb races on the calendar (way better than Karoo2Coast!)

I agree. It was nice. Had two flats between WP1 & 2 and had to race leaking air for 15km to where my Mrs were with a replacement rim at WP2. It was a mission cause I had to stop every so often to inflate.

She had the tyre replaced, and I changed back at WP4.

1st time for this and it would not be the last.

Minor rant:

One dude in group B nearly took myself and another couple of guys out trying to win the race in the first 200m. D@@s!!

Did any one else see the full susser Electric /battery mtb that was used on the mini Atta?

Saw it too. Looked very nice. Didn't get the make. Battery pack was branded Bosch though. Couldn't help but think what the CSA rules said about participating on that.

I asked the organiser about it and apparantly he has a disability, well me too because I struggle with fitness and climbs so I was wondering if I can use one as well [emoji6]

I would have no prob with someone using an electric assisted bike in a race.  They must just fall in another category.

I pitty that person to carry that bike through some of the water/mud crossings :whistling: .

OK, I survived, but only just. I saved my legs up to the spur stop, but the first climb out of there I started cramping. From there it was ride on the flat(downhill, flats are very few), push on the climb. I managed a 7.22. It is a nice beautiful event, but I would not do it again. I will never be able to train for it during December and this race needs some serious training.
