hi All

Keen on purchasing a Trek 100 Superfly Al Elite.

Buyer and I have agreed in principle on price subject to a service report from LBS and more pictures.

Require advise on bike from Hubbers who are knowledgeable on Trek and in particular this bike.

I also require assistance in getting the bike via a reputable and fairly cheap courier from Potchefstroom to Durban.

Thank you in advance

Check out this review.

I have the Pro which is one up on the Elite and really enjoy the bike.

Just make sure the front fork is serviced regularly as per Fox's website otherwise you could land up with damaged stanchions!

If I had to service my fork every 30 hours, it would mean every month ... they are sure smokin' something ... at R800 a service they are in the money making business that's for sure.

I service mine every 100 hours, and try to avoid muddy days. And clean the stanchions as often as possible, after every ride if possible.

noted about the Fox service issues

Thank you

Have you considered a Giant Anthen X1? Also a really great bike and there is even one for sale in Natal:

Not sure what your budget is but definatley worth looking at.

Bike specs: http://www.giant-bicycles.com/en-za/bikes/model/anthem.27.5.1/19592/78183/#specifications

A bit out of my price range and opting for 29.

thank you.

Any advise on courier company and costs attached ?

I have the Superfly 100 Al Elite.  I've had it for 2.5 years and it has been bullet proof.  Of course, I have done the regular maintenance necessary, but consumables thus far are three chains, three sets of brake pads, and suspension bearings and shock seals last December.  I've done 4,485km since new.  Hope it helps. PM me if you have other questions.

P.S. I only service the fork every 140 hours or so, about 2000-2500km.  It's pretty damn easy to do, and the OEM seals are about R250 (?)

thank you

much appreciated noted regarding the servicing of the shocks

Learn to service your own shocks - its not that difficult.

That said - fixing a shock is best left to an expert - Droo - for instance...

Time Freight were the cheapest to courier it and didn't cost an arm and a leg.

Due to work commitments was unable to ride this weekend.
