About the weeping, I fitted same brand new tires front and rear (Mountain King protection). The rear is weeping and the front isn't.

My theory is that the back tire takes more weight and deforms more, so the sidewalls wear/micro-tear, causing the weeping. The front will probably end up weeping eventually, I guess. Rear also had a thick layer of latex buildup, front had minor.

Interesting ... my rear Rocket Ron weeps on the tread itself, not from the sidewalls. In like 100 places. but strangely it does not lose much pressure.

Finally have a win! .

School fees of note. Here's the learning curve for others to not suffer the same fate

Took the tyre off Monday. Cleaned it out. Peeled off the old latex as best I could - don't do this.

Figured to speed things up took wheel in. Lbs helped me get it back on. Couldn't take bike out immediately as I was at work, get home, it's flat.

Took it to the garage Tuesday night learned a trick. You can twist off the valve on the garage pump to get it onto a presta valve. Wednesday morning, flat again,

Tx to Johann, and things to look out for, got the oh to pump up the last bit to 4 bar, this morning tyre still intact. But now back to where I started. All the sealant put in out leaked out again, gonna get a syringe and go the valve route.

Despite all the benefits of tubeless, it can cause some major headaches - go ask the Sheriff and Brett about my sister's rear tyre and the nightmare that was for them to get on and get seated - I am pretty sure the two of them wake up in the middle of the night screaming in terror at the memory of it, haha

I found using Scrubbs ammonia and a zin(washing up sponge thing) made getting the thin coat of stans off the inside of the tyre super easy. My ocd would not allow for leaving it in the tyre before adding new sealant.

*oh ja, soapy water on the bead to get it to seat nicely.

I was pulling it out as well because it looks gross. not that anyone can see inside my tyre. but in hindsight it makes sense to keep it there - I found a nice big thorn through all that latex and it was holding up pretty well.

I miss Ivo sometimes. He had a way with my tyres.

Just took this out of my back wheel .... 100 grams demmit, no wonder i can't break 1 hour for my Thaba lap  :whistling:

I use whatever sealant is available/cheapest at my LBS (mostly Ryder I think) ... I can't remember 'bombing' that wheel ever so interesting that this happened? Been a while but was hesitant to have to remove the tire to get to that, getting that tire on was a moerse struggle as can be seen by the broken off piece of tire lever that I also removed (that sound also made me mad but only at low speed  :cursing:  )

Dayum! That looks like something that came out of the pooper of a dying dog.

The other day we removed 200 grams of latex from a tyre.

There are lots of workshop tricks for seating different rim and tyre combos. Most of them involve the amount, type and width of tape applied to the rim.

@Lurch its like you are telling my story. Glad I'm not the only one.

Struggled for a whole weekend and failed to get a Maxxis Crossmark onto a DT Swiss rim. Fitted, seated with floor pump and removed again the same Maxxis onto Alex rim no problem - just to see if it was possible to fit the Maxxis onto another freaking rim. Removed and fitted, seated old Schwalbe onto DT Swiss rim with minimal effort - to prove to myself that I could fit a tyre onto the DT Swiss (questioning my sanity). But could under no circumstances get the Crossmark onto the DT. After blood, sweat and tears (literally) I eventually just bought a new Schwalbe Evo Snakeskin "Tubeless Easy" and hey it was really really easy. Fitted onto DT, seated with floor pump and popped in some Stans using the syringe/valve method. From my limited experience the Schwalbe (front) seems to weep sealant much more than the Maxxis but doesn't seem to lose too much pressure.

Whatever trailhead did on Mark's Orbea .. Damn that thing is bullet proof. He hasnt had a single problem.

On the plus side, thanks to the patience of some hubbers, I've learnt how to pretty painlessly top up through the valve. My front rim tape probably needs sone tlc.

Next up samurai thingie
