Hi Everyone,

I want to upgrade my MTB suspension fork, so I need some advise on what to look out for, what fork to get and most important where I can buy one.

any advise would be much appreciated.

That would largerly depend on whay size wheels you have, what bike you have, what type of riding you do amd of course what your budget is.

Best you tell us what bike, model year and fork you currently have....and your budget. It will help us to give more useful advice.

I have a 2016 TITAN Sport 29" with a SR Suntour fork, We like to do Xc and single track with some cases where there are some downhill areas within the track and this is where my current fork seems to be failing.

FOX 32 evolution , rock shoc reba,recon

fox has better small bump sensitivity

but nothing beats the feel of rock shoc on a big decent/jump

try to get thru-axle if your wheels allow - this wil stiffen the front end making the bike more "nippy" around corners

Absolute best is to go ride a similar bike with one of the forks at a place that has something of everything i.e. hyterdale trails or bakaans valley .....As i see you are from PE

then after that do any other research you feel is important and make your choice .

One tip - In my experince Rock shox are easier and cheaper to service - If this is a factor to you.....

happy riding

Thanks  FTZWKMTB I will look into it, yes I am from PE and Baakens Valley is one of the tracks I was referring to, Where do one buy these forks, or do you have to order it somewhere? I had a look in some of our LBS's and no one keeps fork in stock

the LBS can usualy order one for you , but often times when ordering from the reps themselves you get other goodies like stickers ,seals, spares and so on without the price being more

evobikes and chris wilemse should also be able to sort you out quick quick

define failing

It feels like the fork is not coping with the "downhill" part of the track. It almost feels like the fork is bottoming out or if it is not stiff enough to absorb the obstacles of the track, causing me to loose control over the bike.

What is your weight and travel of your current fork? and axle type?

I'm thinking a RS Reba would be a nice upgrade at a reasonable price point. Or a 2016 Fox 32 Performance. Unless you are a heavy guy....

rrp for your titan sport is R8700, a new fork is going to be in that region.

It'll be like putting a Ferrari engine in a tata indica. I don't think it would be a good upgrade, in terms of bang for buck.

Since it's a new bike, I would try play with the tuning in the suntour before making any massive decisions

I'd suggest buying a good condition 2nd hand fork rather - new suspension forks are incredibly expensive. Alternatively sell the bike and buy a complete R15k bike rather where everything (including the fork) will be a step up from your current bike. If you've outgrown the fork then you'll probably find you will want to upgrade everything else soon afterwards.

Depending on your steerer tube and axle needs, this could be a very good deal from a reliable Hubber --> https://www.bikehub.co.za/classifieds/176660-fox-f100-rlt-fit-factory-series-29er/
