Have done a few rides with the doc's,some proper fit lads in the fastest group... And see them often on the wkd ,generally coming in the opposite direction.

How many hubbers ride out that way in the wk late afternoon if any? Or wkd ? Not with doc's that is.

DOC have got different ability groups, tho in winter if there's only four on a Weds night, you'd probably have to be fit.  Summertime there can be 30-40 riders. I ride a lot down that way and there's also a group goes out from the circus - the two groups used to meet at the brewery.

I'm happy riding alone daytime between Rietvlei and the Blockhouse, the last hijackings I heard of were year ago or more and centred around one named location.

Worst is Saturday morning on Rand Water Board Rd which becomes 'funeral central', so roadbike training there becomes difficult.

The race that goes out of the Lido hotel has a 70km distance on it, all of which is this area and none of which is restricted-access land. It even has a hill in it.

Those funeral goers can get quite rowdy and reckless sometimes....gotta watch going past there!!

Come ride with the DOCs. They meet at Bells in Driving range early weekend mornings, different distances and speed groups. You will quickly fit in with a group that suits your riding.

If you get a puncture and replace your Toob and throw your old toob in the bush you will quickly get told to go pick it up!

Seriously they are a good bunch of helpful MTB people.

Used to do a fair bit of riding with doc group when they met at rietvlei. Used to enjoy it a lot. Just haven't joined them since they moved to bells. I see a few of there guys at thaba during the week.

As for the funerals. They will run you over trying to cross klipriver or just riding along that stretch.

Can one park at the Lido hotel and go adventuring from there?

Better from Rietvlei or Bells Inn when the DOC folk are there.  You'd go past both before getting to the Lido if you're coming from Linksfield way.
