In his state of the city address the Mayor of Tshwane announced today that Fort Klapperkop has been identified as the site for the new parliament. This is will be a blow to all users of this proclaimed nature reserve it looks like our public meeting has got a lot more interesting so if you haven't signed the petition and you are concerned about the area maybe this will prompt you.

I corrected a  typo and maybe I'm too close to it, but the facts are our last training spot in the area is going to be lost so that parliament can be moved from Cape Town.

If that is the case, Cape Town will lose a wealth of intellectual capacity when the MP's move up north :whistling:

Your averages will improve and ours will go down!

So, what about the old fort? Are they going to knock it down??

That's what makes this choice so peculiar rezoning a nature reserve and a national heritage site is not an easy thing to do.

Posted

Well that makes absolutely no sense. They want to move parliament to one province to save the government on travel expenses but now want to build a new parliament.........

And they won't be able to knock down the fort as it's a national monument.

What is wrong with the Union Buildings. Surely they must have the facilities to host parliament.

F@**en mense wat net wil geld mors........maak my hoogs die MOER in!

And the petition has nothing to do with Klapperkop being a potential site for the "New Parliament".

Instead, here's a news article: http://ewn.co.za/2016/04/21/Tshwane-identifies-Fort-Klapperkop-as-possible-site-for-relocation-of-parliament

The connection to the petition is the fact that we have lost Fountains, Voortrekker Monument and Groenkloof due to the inability of council to deal with crime and now they are about give away the one area that we can still utilize for parliament. If I was a conspiracy theorist I could make a case here.

But on the flip side my property value should increase!
