Running 2.4 Ardent Tyre Front & Rear Good/Bad Idea?

Hi Guys

According to the wise internet I should run a 2.4 Upfront with a 2.25 Rear on my Giant Trance.

But I am having a sourcing issue for the 2.25 so would it be a stupid idea to run 2.4 front and rear?

The weight difference is only 15 grams but when its rotating that could be different...

What do you suggest?

I said it to somebody else the other day . the 2.4 does not seat properly on normal width rims . It  burps more that my granma in church .

Darn that sucks as then my next option was the 2.4 Conti X-King Pure Grip but I hear those do not seal as well...

As long as you have clearance in your frame, it will work fine (some frames can't fit a 2.4 tire in the rear). If you're having an issue with your tires burping, your pressure is too low.

Although the tire will be slightly heavier, you will have considerably more grip, especially as the Ardent is very well suited to South African terrain

I run a Wtb vigilante 2.3 front and a Trailboss 2.4 rear and it's fine but then the Vigi is pretty much as wide as the TB on the rear because of its profile, don't always go on what the net says. Rather get something else for the front like a Highroller2 or Minion and leave the Ardent on the rear.

it's the width of the standard rims that is holding you back here. Whilst you CAN put a bigger volume tyre on, you will have to pump it up higher than normal (30psi plus) in order to keep it on the rim properly. It'll still be better than the 2.25, as higher volume, but due to the 19mm inner width of the P-XC2's you won't feel the full benefit of the larger tyre.

But it won't not work.

No the real issue is I am running tubeless with non tubeless tyres so the bead doesn't keep the tyre on..

look, I ran WTB wolverine 2.2's (which are ACTUALLY a 2.5 but anyway) on my oooold wheelset, which was a crappy Alex TD20 with 17 / 18mm internal width on a ghetto tubeless setup for a reasonably long time. Yes, I needed to keep it inflated properly otherwise it WOULD burp, but it worked. It'd mainly burp in technical terrain, and when leaned over hard in berms with my not inconsiderate bulk forcing it to burp.

As an alternative, a Nobby Nic snakeskin would do the trick. Or an Onza Canis. Canis would get my vote, and you get them in 2.25. Just don't go for the 120TPI version!!!

I've run 2.4 mountain king and 2.35 hans dampf on the giant rims at about 20-25psi, never had an issue with burping but YMMV. Unless there's something special about ardents in 2.4, it'll work.

Now that I've gone wider won't be buying anything narrower than 2.4 for like forever. Trance likes dikwiel tires front and back.

So you would happily go 2.4 all-round?
