Will there be an issue if a team organizes their own back up vehicle? I'm sure it will be beneficial to everyone, especially on the roads with the trucks as the back up vehicle will act as a shield.

From my understanding, no backup vehicle, no shielding from traffic.Only assistance is at the checkpoints.

From the rules off the Audax website

13. No support vehicles

No following vehicles or support on route is permitted. Support is only permitted at control points. For security purposes monitoring may take place at not less than 15 km intervals. Please abide by the spirit of this rule.

This is one of those rides where you honestly need nothing and no support ... we did a 300k one in the same area last year this time with no issues just 2 of us .... I prefer just riding it by myself anyway :)

This will only be my 3rd one and have not really felt unsafe in the previous ones.  Also found the trucks giving you more than enough space when passing while cars tended to be less accommodating.  At least if you finish by 3-ish you'll be off the road before those that have a few pots at lunch start driving home.

This is my first. Can I just follow somebody please.

I don't know where to go or what to do.

I assume the check points will be at petrol stations? Can buy some extra water and sarmie?

No need to worry about getting lost. The routed are generally pretty straightforward. I can send you the gpx if you want.

Don't pack too much food... On my first one I had pockets full of squashed sarmies that I chucked away at the end. Petrol stations and wimpy ftw!

'Private excursion' that's how I see these events .... Not a team/bunch event. Just my interpretation I guess, the navigation is part of the fun/challenge as well [emoji6]

What's the distance between "water stops".

60, 52, 40 and 54. You can top up with water at all of them.

There's a strong possibility that I might have too many juniper berry milkshakes this afternoon and be too hungover to join.

No excuses. I got flu but aim to do it albeit slowly. Should be a lekker day out

What a sweet ride. Missed a turn so clocked 220 or so. Was completely lost. Google maps for the win an the hubbers who showed me the way home. Thanks gents.

Traffic was courteous too. For the most part.

Thanks to all

Had a lekker day out despite the cold start. Pat Malone but that's how I like it. A few offers of a 'tow' but that's not how I roll at those events ????

Mildly amused at some who signed the 'in the spirit' form ahead of me but hey whatever blows your hair back ????
