I am actually thinking maybe I should ride the thing till its absolutely fubar....and then buy a ks.

I recently sold my reverb and bought a Giant. The reverb is super good but too expensive to maintain..for me anyway, hence the move to something more mechanical in the former of the lever.

If the cartridge goes (hopefully not), then it's as simple as buying a new one...R500 or so I think

Agree...I mean I dont need the adjustability ito dropping at certain hights...its either up or down. I really like spez's dropper...especially the lever

The giant is in finitely adjustable but on my rides it's either up or down, like you say, no where in between.

The only time I use it in between is when I am praticing my wheelies, which is not after at all.

Not a terrible idea at all. You can buy individual spares at not ridiculous prices, and they're less prone to failure than most.

That said, RS have just released a 200 hour rebuild kit for about half the price of the full one - R 595 against R 1 200.

By comparison, I rebuilt a KS Lev last week with a new oil cartridge, seals, cable, keys, bushing and roller bearing for R 2 600. To repair an RS in that state would have been close to the price of a new one.

yea....seems simpler is better with droppers at the moment. Look when the reverb is working its beaut, but its a maintenance whore and not a cheap exercise to keep running.

So what can really wear out with modest use? Circlips?

With my reverb it was the air seals that kept going. I used it often on a ride, even when i didnt really need to use, i ised it. That's what its there for..lol

It is a costly exercise.  The service kit must be around R 950-00 at the moment and you can bet the bush in the cap is shot as well.  Add another R600+.  Then some oil and labour.......

My dropper has also gone, going to cost me R1400 to fix it. Wondering if I should fix it or try and find something in the same price range, what gets me is I only payed R1500 for it.

IMO, I don't think you should spent the money to fix it. It will eventually go again or need service, then it's another R1500 or so.

I bought a Giant and so far so good. Cable actuated so you can adjust yourself, no bleeding like the reverb.

It has an internal cartridge and when that goes (hopefully not soon), you simply get a new one and replace. They now about R700 I think.

Far easier and cheaper to maintain and works just as well.

Have had my reverb for 18 months with no drama at all untill saturaday in the rain and mud. Sometimes would not go down but always came back up property so stopped trying to use it in case I damaged it any more .

After reading this thread I thought I was in for about a R1000 now I am not sure sure .

But don't know what's Wong with it though . Even after cleaning the bike etc I haven't pushed it down. Can I do more harm if try using it . Or as rouxtjie said use it untill it stops completely ????
