Those are normal rim strips, not tubeless, you don't need them.

Just use the tape.

Not just any tape ..... Gorilla Tape!

Rim strips are rubbish for tubeless. You can only use them once.

OK, I didn't look at the chain reactions picture. My bad, dirtypot is correct. You could use them if you want, but they would be redundant.

You can use duct tape, but get the one with the fine thread count in the base.

R85 at hardware for 25m. Use a carpet knife to cut the width. I usually measure outside width of the rim and cut that wide.

That is the nice thing about the Gorrila Tape

  • Does not curl when being stretched and taped onto the rim
  • A very little thicker than std duct tape
  • Far stronger "surface" vs std duct tape
  • BEST THING .... it comes in a 25mm width roll = no more cutting a std 50mm duct tape roll to sze

Yes, but gorilla tape cost about R85 for 25mm x 5m

Paid R70 at builders about a month ago.

Bargains. Going rates at LBS is R150.00 for a roll.

That's a good price for the gorilla tape. Some lbs sell for R100. But still 5m vs 25. And yes gorilla tape is great, just not worth the price for me.

agreed it is a higher cost per linear meter than std duct tape, and this is the primary reason it took me so long to buy it.

if memory serves, it is a 25mm x 10m roll @ R70

where it makes me happy, is that the toughness is superior, and in previous installations with std duct tape, during a tyre change the tyre levers often damage std duct tape and I end up having to strip down the wheel, clean up and re tape again ..... not much fun. gorilla tape is tougher and survives the tyre change exercise more bearable
