Desert Dash has been high up on my list since inception. I have however, never been able to afford it and hence, never trained for it.

I have now been given the opportunity to enter a sponsored 4 man team (entries, support vehicle, clothing etc)

For a casual rider that does 30km group rides 3 times a week, that can do 50km with a little effort, will it be unreasonable to think he could train for a 4 man team to enter the dash this year?

Do it. We did the 4 man team last year. This time last year my girlfriend struggled with a 40km ride. She did stage 4 in 4 hours. I would say it is very possible. Just make sure that the strongest in the team do stage 2 and 3.

No question! Do it!

As Philip said, put the strongest riders on st 2 and 3 and the "less experienced" riders on stages 4 and 5. Make sure that the rider doing st 5 can do 100km comfortably because he/she will have to do st 6 with the rest of the team after riding 70km and the stage is a bit of a bastard at that stage.

Your team can help the others to get up the Kupferberg pass in st 1 and then the "less experienced" riders can rest their legs.

We did 30-40km per day in the week and on the weekends we started at 50km per day and slowly worked up to 70km and the on the last hard training weekend, we took the girls for a 110km on Saturday and again on the Sunday. They did very well and we finished in just over 21hours.

This was the reward:

Any more inside info Philip?

This might be put on the list.

Thinking solo?

Rather ask Sias he is on solo 7... But after doing the 4 man team last year I want to do the full ride. I did stage 2 it wasn't that bad. Stage 3 is a "perd van n ander kleur" Sias can help you with the rest of the race...
