I rode all the stages. Stage 4 I rode pretty much on my own the whole way. Only at the very end did I hookup with some other guys. Started stage 4 just after midnight.

Must be mistaken then. Congrats on the finish

Please don't generalize. We obeyed all the rules and made sure that we never put a cyclist life in danger, sometimes going kilometers on end behind a cyclist just to avoid inconveniencing him/her.

Anyway...my bum has now healed, but my brain is a little wonky still. I figure doing the 2nd set for a 2 man can't be that much tougher than a 4 man

You're the exception that proves the rule then.

Congratulations to everyone that reached their goals, and condolences to those that didn't make it.

I met Patches at the medal "ceremony", though I think we unknowingly rode to the start together - there was a pack of about ten Hollard riders looking mean and hungry.

I think I rode the last few kilometers to water point 1 with Warthog-whisperer and a Juanita - also from Hollard!

I rode bang on my planned riding time, but my stops at the checkpoints took longer than planned. I think I leapfrogged Patches in CP 5 as he was definitely in front of me on the pipe-line if I look at the photos and I only passed a 2 man team in Hollard kit (how many of them were there???) on stage 6.

I missed my sub-20 hour by 3 minutes and finished in 20:03 in 32nd place.

You def leap frogged me there, that's where I was man down. I was pretty much in top 10 for the first 180km until it fell apart on stage 5 and 6.... :(

There were lots of Hollard guys. Their 4 man team came 2nd, they had a 2 man team, but those guys you passed on stage 6 weren't actually with Hollard. Had a nice chat to them in the desert. Then there were about 10 solo guys, some from SA other from Hollard Nam.

Must say, first trip to Namibia and it impressed, smaak the people!

Jeez, this thread is getting me lus to get back on my bike and start training again.

My moms toe nail got ripped off by one of the pallets they put down at the finish, wonder if I can push for a free solo entry :P

Solo attack with 340km to go!!

Gees... No dirt on clothes... No sweat... You sure your race report was accurate? :whistling:

Well done to all on finishing though... I did a 60km race in 38C with only about 5km of very, very thick 'it's burning me through my shoes' sand and I swore never again!

Funny thing, My wife drove over my daughter's toe just before we were supposed to go back to the prize-giving ceremony (don't ask how the two of them managed to do that). She also lost her toenail.

That was 20km into the race I think.

This was at CP5 300km later..... no laughing! :D

Managed a smile as we crossed the line though.

Best bit of the race was right at the very end. With 300m to go, just before the palates started I fell over in the thick sand, and I had a sense of humour failure, out of pure frustration and being moedeloos I just screamed, "jou ma se poooooos" at the top of my voice, not noticing the 70 year old Oom right next to me. He leans over and says to me in the softest voice, "moenie worry nie seun, jys amper daar"as if nothing happened, shame bless his soul.
